Patent number: 6254060Abstract: A gate assembly for a double disk gate valve having two closure disks with a resilient material between. The resilient material and closure disks are enveloped in an outer harder coating. Closing the gate valve brings the disks into initial sealing contact with the bottom of the valve seat. Applying pressure to the gate valve after contact is made between the gate assembly and the valve seat causes the resilient central member to exert pressure against the closure disks, thus pressing the outer coating of the gate assembly against the sidewalls of the valve seat. This action creates a better sealing engagement with the seat surface to exclude flow. Wear on the gate assembly is significantly reduced since the gate assembly does not make contact with the sidewalls of the seat while being moved between an open position and a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1999Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignee: Penn Troy Machine Company, Inc.Inventor: Paul G. Patent number: 4779649Abstract: A gate valve for controlling the passage of fluid between inlet and outlet openings comprises a housing (40) containing a reciprocating expandable gate element formed of a wedge (54) which is sandwiched between two spring-loaded plates (56 and 58) so that reciprocation of the wedge causes expansion of the plates for closing the valve's openings. In order to facilitate the return stroke of the wedge and to overcome the holding force of the vacuum on one of the plate, the device includes a bleeder valve element (80) which is connected to the first plate and has a seat on the second plate so that when the first plate (56) located on the higher pressure side commences its movement, it opens the bleeder valve element and equilizes the pressures on both sides of the valve. This eliminates the vacuum and thus the holding force. In the second embodiment, the valve has a time-delay mechanism which delays retraction of the plate on the low pressure side until a certain equilibrium of pressure is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1987Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Assignee: Huntington Mechanical Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Valentin Balter

Patent number: 4162057Abstract: A linear retractable seal valve having an inlet and outlet port and a fluid passageway therebetween with a lateral passageway perpendicular to the fluid passageway and with a wedge sealing-slip assembly slideably held at opposite side edges of the wedge to two guide rails of the valve body and moveable from a distant valve open first location within the lateral passageway to a second location between inlet and outlet ports of the valve. The slip-wedge assembly has at least one closure slip with an inside face of the slip slideably engaging a tapering face of the wedge and with the slip at said second location being restrained from further longitudinal movement and moveable in a perpendicular direction of the longitudinal assembly movement into closure engagement with one of the valve ports. The guide rails are diametrically-opposed and extend longitudinally of the inside face of the lateral passageway into the fluid passageway.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1978Date of Patent: July 24, 1979Assignee: Aerojet-General CorporationInventor: Javed Qasim

Patent number: 4134571Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in a conventional double-disc gate valve having a vertically movable gate assembly including a wedge, spreaders slidably engaged therewtih, a valve disc carried by the spreaders. When the gate assembly is lowered to a selected point in the valve casing, the valve discs are moved transversely outward to close inlet and outlet ports in the casing. The valve includes hold-down means for guiding the disc-and-spreader assemblies as they are moved transversely outward and inward. If such valves are operated at relatively high differential pressures, they sometimes jam during opening. Such jamming has been a problem for many years in gate valves used in gaseous diffusion plants for the separtion of uranium isotopes. The invention is based on the finding that the above-mentioned jamming results when the outlet disc tilts about its horizontal axis in a certain way during opening of the valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1977Date of Patent: January 16, 1979Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of EnergyInventor: Seth J. Patent number: 3961768Abstract: A plunger valve having a straight through passage closed by a cylindrical, elastic plunger. The plunger is movable at right angles to the through passage. It is connected to a screw-threaded stem by a retaining pin which is positioned in a longitudinal open bore of the plunger. In closed position of the valve, the retaining pin contacts the opposite wall of the through passage to limit the elastic deformation of the plunger. In open position of the valve, the retaining pin is slightly retracted within its bore. The retaining pin is rigidly fixed to the stem and is rotatable in the plunger, but the plunger is held non-rotatably in the valve body by circumferential friction. The retaining pin holds the plunger by a shoulder situated in the upper part of the plunger.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1974Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: Conval Nederland N.V.Inventor: Hubertus Leonardus Martinus Veugelers
