Patent number: 4196886Abstract: The present invention provides an improvement in fluid flow control valves which utilize polymeric rubbery materials either as the valve member or the valve seat in the flow control valve. The improvements are obtained by utilizing as the rubbery material for either the valve seat or the valve, a semi-rigid to rigid rubbery material prepared by curing a nitrile rubber with from three to 15 parts of sulfur per 100 parts of rubber. Such cured rubbers when utilized in said application, have been found to overcome the problems exhibited by the rubbery materials heretofore used for such applications.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1975Date of Patent: April 8, 1980Assignee: Industrial Electronic Rubber Co.Inventor: Myles N. Patent number: 4190071Abstract: A backflow prevention device is disclosed which includes a pressure differential relief valve. The relief valve includes a lift chamber functioning to accelerate opening of the valve to assure that the valve fully opens once it has partially opened. The relief valve also includes construction features which allow control of the opening timing of the valve and which cause added closing force to be applied on the valve member to provide more positive closure thereof. Furthermore, a member is provided which substantially eliminates transfer of torque from a spring in the relief valve to a diaphragm therein and substantially eliminates angular cocking of the moveable valve assembly also in the relief valve.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1977Date of Patent: February 26, 1980Assignee: International Telephone and Telegraph CorporationInventors: Robert H. Patent number: 4183501Abstract: A fluid control valve includes a valve body having a passageway, a valve stem, a valve seat, a floating stem end member and a captive internally threaded insert. The valve stem has a molded-on, color-coded external thread mating with the internal thread of the color-coded insert so as to advance or retract the stem through the valve body as the stem is turned by an operating knob. The stem end member includes a pair of retaining arms which snap over a shoulder on the stem and these arms are confined within the valve body. These arms retain the stem end member on the stem while still permitting free rotation of the stem within the stem end member. As the stem advances into the valve body, the stem end member is moved into sealing contact with the valve seat, thereby blocking the continued passage of water from an inlet port to an outlet port. The valve seat also serves as a union nut mount, and is slotted for easy removal from the rear by use of a screwdriver for servicing.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1977Date of Patent: January 15, 1980Assignee: Manville Manufacturing CorporationInventor: Eugene R.
