  • Patent number: 8915722
Abstract: Tapered valve guide and spring retainer assemblies are described for use in plunger pump housings that incorporate corresponding outwardly flared discharge and suction bores, as well as structural features for stress-relief. Plunger pumps so constructed are relatively resistant to fatigue failure because of stress reductions, and they may incorporate essentially any style of valves, including top and lower stem-guided valves and crow-foot-guided valves, in easily-maintained configurations. Besides forming a part of valve guide and spring retainer assemblies, side spacers may be shaped and dimensioned to improve volumetric efficiency of the pumps in which they are used. The present disclosure provides, for the first time, the use of tungsten carbide valve seats, which significantly increase durability and service life of a pump, especially when abrasive fluids are being pumped, as in various oilfield operations.

Tunable fluid end embodiments comprise a family, each family member comprising a fluid-end housing with at least one installed tunable component chosen from: tunable check valve assemblies, tunable valve seats, tunable radial arrays and/or tunable plunger seals. Each tunable component, in turn, contributes to blocking excitation of fluid end resonances, thus reducing the likelihood of fluid end failures associated with fatigue cracking and/or corrosion fatigue. By down-shifting the frequency domain of each valve-closing impulse shock, initial excitation of fluid end resonances is minimized. Subsequent damping and/or selective attenuation of vibration likely to excite one or more predetermined (and frequently localized) fluid end resonances represents further optimal use of fluid end vibration-control resources.

Abstract: A seat block capable of maintaining a well-fitted state of a seat portion in a simple and reliable manner regardless of use conditions. A seat portion base body (43) is provided in a housing (67) provided with a valve passage (66) and allows a piston (28) for opening and closing a valve passage (66) to be pressed on the seat portion base body (43). A spring member (23) applies an elastic force to the seat portion base body (43) such that the elastic mechanism (23) cooperates with the housing (67) to retain the seat portion base body (43).

Abstract: A servo pulser used to actuate a pulser valve and create pressure pulses in downhole measurement while drilling tools is described. An electric gearmotor is used to rotate a shaft which in turn operates a servo valve. A facing portion of the shaft is compressed onto the face of a servo seat having passages connected to the inside of a drill collar and the rotating action is used to open and/or obstruct a fluid path through those passages. The shaft may include wear-resistant tips to obstruct the fluid path. Part of the torque-transmitting apparatus between the gearmotor and the shaft can be hydrostatically compensated, and part sealed against the operating environment. A magnetic torque coupler may be used as part of the torque-transmitting apparatus between the gearmotor and the shaft. The servo pulser is coupled to a pulser valve, a power source and a sensor package all of which reside inside a short section of drill pipe near the bottom of well bore being drilled.

Abstract: An assembly for limiting excess flow includes a seat and a disc. The seat has an inner ring, an outer ring having a top surface tapering in a downstream direction from outer ring towards the inner ring, and a plurality of legs attaching the inner ring to the outer ring. The disc attaches to the inner ring and extends radially outwardly therefrom. The disk has an axially downstream surface that flexes into contact with the outer ring if the flow exceeds a limit around the disc, and a shoulder spacing the axially downstream surface from the inner ring to space the disc axially from the outer ring.
