  • Publication number: 20130327974
Abstract: A recess is provided at the periphery of the flapper so that a corner that defines this recess engages an o-ring seal in a seat for the flapper. A reduced contact area of the flapper on the o-ring seal results in increased pressure over the actual contact area. The pressure applied over the contact area also forces a distortion in the o-ring that has a part of the o-ring not restrained due to the presence of the recess moving out of the surrounding o-ring groove so that the corner on the flapper pinches the o-ring that now is partly in and partly extending from its surrounding groove. Sealing is obtained at lower differential pressures and the o-ring is better fixated as a result of the pinch effect of the corner on the flapper.

Abstract: A seal assembly, for use within a hot melt adhesive or other thermoplastic material dispensing valve assembly, comprises a sealing cartridge comprising a first primary seal, a secondary seal, and a viscous incompressible silicone grease disposed internally within the sealing cartridge. The viscous silicone grease effectively distributes the pressure forces such that internal pressure forces within the silicone grease are substantially equal to the external pressure forces of the hot melt adhesive whereby a pressure differential across the primary seal member is effectively eliminated thereby effectively eliminating the tendency for leakage of the hot melt adhesive or other thermoplastic materials.

Abstract: Provided herein are drainage valves for removing water accumulated in the lower part of fuel tanks of an aircraft. The valves can be affixed in correspondence with a lower skin forming part of the tanks. The lower skin includes recesses for the complementary housing of the heads of the valves that, in combination with some axial fastening nuts, immobilize the valves to that skin. The recesses can comprise a conical structure obtained by deformation of the lower skin, and with the deformation an inner elevated seat is further obtained, on which seat the axial fastening nuts press, maintaining the thickness of the skin in the area where the valves are located, thus preventing the area from weakening as it happens conventionally.

Abstract: An improved gasket for floor drain valve for buildings, basements, exterior paved areas, and the like. The invention provides a gasket positioned around the outside of check valves providing sealing engagement and support for said drain valve within a conduit. The gasket provides outwardly directed vanes for some four and sealing of the valve to the interior of the conduit. In one embodiment the vanes are connected together form an inflatable chamber extending about the periphery of the gasket which cavity is accessed by an inflation needle from the upper surface of said gasket so that air or other gases under pressure may be forced into the inflatable cavity causing the wall of said cavity to engage the interior surface of the conduit thereby sealing and supporting the drain valve. Provision is made for locking the drain valves in operative position within said conduit.

Abstract: A valve assembly is disclosed herein having a valve member and a valve seat body. The valve member is reciprocatingly movable into and out of engagement with the valve seat body. The assembly further includes at least one deformable seal positioned to be at the situs of engagement of the valve member with the valve seat body. The at least one seal is preconfigured with a recess facing the situs to form a pocket to trap fluid therein as the valve member approaches the engagement, which reduces the velocity of the valve member moving toward the engagement and reduces the impact force of the valve member on the valve seat body. Furthermore, the fluid disposed within the pocket also reduces the axial load on the valve member and valve seat body.
