Abstract: Daylight fluorescent articles are disclosed that utilize durable fluorescent pigment particles resulting from a fluorescent dye incorporated within a matrix polymer selected from polycarbonate, polyester and mixtures thereof and where the particles are of various desired shapes and sizes. Embodiments of such fluorescent pigment particles may also be retroreflective and are especially useful for pavement marking surfaces and retroreflective products for highway transportation safety.

Abstract: There is provided a stable, concentrated fabric rinse composition comprising 0.1 to 20, preferably 1 to 10% by weight of a UV absorber selected from a hydroxyaryl-1,3,5-triazine, a sulphonated-1,3,5-triazine, an o-hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole or a 2-aryl-2H-benzotriazole, based on the total weight of the composition, and a fabric care ingredient, preferably a fabric softener, a stain release or stain repellant ingredient or a water-proofing agent, the remainder being substantially water. The fabric rinse composition is preferably a fabric softener composition comprising 5 to 25, preferably 10 to 20% by weight of a cationic fabric softening agent and 0.1 to 20, preferably 1 to 10% by weight of a UV absorber selected from a hydroxyaryl-1,3,5-triazine, a sulphonated-1,3,5-triazine, an o-hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole or a 2-aryl-2H-benzotriazole, each based on the total weight of the composition, the remainder being substantially water.

Abstract: This invention relates generally to red-shifted trisaryl-1,3,5-triazines and the use thereof to protect against degradation by environmental forces, inclusive of ultraviolet light, actinic radiation, oxidation, moisture, atmospheric pollutants and combinations thereof. The new class of trisaryl-1,3,5-triazines comprises an aryl ring attached to the triazine ring [and preferably an aryl ring containing a hydroxyl group, either free or blocked to form a latent stabilizer, ortho- to the point of attachment to the triazine ring (2-position) and a hydroxyl group or a moiety joined by an ether linkage para- to the point of attachment to the triazine ring (4-position)] substituted at the 3-position or disubstituted at the 3- and 5-positions with a group comprising an amide and/or an amine. These materials may be incorporated into formulations comprising coatings, polymers, resins, organic compounds and the like.
Abstract: The present invention provides a hydrate of the 4,4′-di-triazinylamino-2,2′-di-sulfostilbene compound having the formula:
in which M and M1 independently represent hydrogen, an alkaline-, an alkaline earth metal or ammonium, x is a number within the range of from 1 to 30, and the crystal form of the hydrate (I) being characterised by an X-ray diffraction pattern which is essentially as set out in the accompanying FIGS. 1 to 11; or a mixture containing one or more of the hydrates of the 4,4′-di-triazinylamino-2,2′-di-sulfostilbene compound having the formula (I); processes for the preparation of the new hydrates; and the use of the new hydrates for the preparation of concentrated aqueous formulations of fluorescent whitening agents.
Abstract: Preparation of a solid fluorescent composition comprising
(1) mixing a host chromophore and an effective amount of a pigment precursor in a solvent, then generating a pigment as guest chromophore in-situ from the pigment precursor, and, subsequently, isolating the mixture of the host and guest chromophores, thereby forming a solid solution, or
(2) mixing a polymer as a matrix or a polymer precursor and a pigment precursor in a solvent, if desired in the presence of a chromophore being a host component, then generating a pigment in-situ from the pigment precursor (being the guest component if a host component is present), and, subsequently, isolating the mixture of polymer and pigment, and—if present—the host component, thereby forming a solid solution, wherein in all cases where there is a host component, the absorption spectrum of the pigment (guest chromophore) overlaps with the fluorescence emission spectrum of the host chromophore.
