Abstract: The cable puller uses a compound handle to create great leverage in order to generate a large pulling force with a minimal amount of force applied by the operator. The pulling force can be used for heavy lifting applications. The cable puller could be used to hoist motors, shafts, gears, automobile engines, construction material, machinery and other heavy objects. The cable puller could also be used in the demolition of building structures, the erection of buildings and towers, straightening collision damage, opening railroad car doors, securing tent structures, stretching fence and wire, and tightening conveyor belts. In one embodiment, the handle creates a lever ratio of 65:1. In this instance, 8,000 lbs. can be lifted with an exertion of 123 lbs. of force by the operator. The compound handle is formed by a driven member that engages and rotates the ratchet wheel. A cable is taken up by the wheel in order to move objects. The driven member is connected to a driving member by a connection member.

Abstract: For providing a chain lever hoist that can ensure a stable free rotation operation over a long term with a simple design, improvement is made in the chain lever hoist wherein an engaging pawl is switched to a neutral position, at which the engaging pawl is not allowed to engage with engaging teeth in the forward direction or a reverse direction, by the operation of a selector lever and then a load chain on the non-loaded side is pulled or an operating handle is rotated in the reverse direction to thereby produce the free rotation state just the way it is, the improvement being such that the operating lever is rotatably supported on a brake cover at its opening with a predetermined spaced interval from a first hub. By virtue of this, the first hub is allowed to rotate together with the drive shaft, without contacting with the operating lever, during the free rotation operation, and as such can attain reliable free rotation operation.

  • Patent number: 5535988
Abstract: If the load applied on the load sheave is small, the pressing drive member contacts tightly with the friction members to make secure the braking of rotation of the drive shaft, so that the small load is prevented from moving downward by its own gravity, and moreover the operation wheel is engaged with and held in the rotation limiting member spline-coupled with the drive shaft so as to be free to idle even in a no-load state, and a spring for pressing the operation wheel to the rotation limiting member is inserted between the outer end surface of the operation wheel and the spring retainer held on the drive shaft projecting from the rotation limiting member.

  • Patent number: 5511447
Abstract: A ratchet block comprised of a frame, movable sheave assembly, ratchet assembly, ratchet assembly and cam wherein the ratchet automatically engages under load permitting rotation of the sheave in only one direction, and disengages when the load is removed permitting rotation in both directions. This automatic engagement and disengagement of the ratchet to increase or reduce friction when a rope or wire is run through the sheave does not require the user to disengage the ratchet mechanism with a conventional switch.

  • Patent number: 5351937
Abstract: A hoist and traction machine having a free rotation control device/apparatus for selectively controlling the mechanical brake to be inoperative and for maintaining the inoperative mode of the mechanical brake, so as to control the free rotation of the load sheave. The free rotation control device is designed such that improved free rotation control operation can be provided, and the range of the pulling force for the chain can be enlarged in the controlled free rotation of the load sheave; thus, allowing the chain to be pulled quicker, while requiring little operating skill. Further, free rotation operation is not provided when the load sheave (and thus the driving shaft) is subjected to a large load acting in the direction of hoisting down the load, thus achieving highly improved safety.

Between the operating handle and the stopper is provided a regulation unit for regulating a relative rotation range of the driving member with respect to the driving shaft so as to enable release of the regulation by moving the handle away from the driving member, so that the driving member is moved away from a driven member by of moving the operating handle from the driving member to be normally rotated in a free-rotation operation mode whereby the braking action of the mechanical brake by a braking ratchet wheel and braking plates is released to control the free rotation of the driving shaft and the elastic biasing member biases it to maintain the state of free rotation control.

  • Patent number: 5238226
Abstract: In an unloaded state, by pulling the pressing drive member apart from the pressure bearing member by moving to the operation wheel side, the load sheave is allowed to rotate freely without disengaging the pinion of the drive shaft and the load sheave. In this lever operated hoist, at this time, since the conical friction member to be engaged with the pressing drive member in the rotating direction, and the intermediate member spline-coupled on the drive shaft adjacently to this conical friction member respectively have engaging parts to be engaged with each other in the rotating direction, disposed at their confronting ends, these engaging parts are engaged with each other when the load sheave rotates freely, and the contact of the torque transmitting member and other constituent members is effectively prevented, so that the load sheave is permitted to idle continously and smoothly.
