  • Patent number: 7712198
Abstract: A microneedle array device and its fabrication method are provided. The microneedle array device comprises a supporting pad and a plurality of microneedles. Each microneedle has a top portion with a via thereon, thereby the microfluid may flow in or out. The intersection between the top portion and the inner tube of a microneedle forms a convex needle structure, and is almost perpendicular to the upper surface. For each microneedle, a hollow closed tube is formed between the top portion and the supporting pad. The fabrication method uses substrates with high transmittance and a plurality of convex area thereon as upper and lower caps, and applies a photolithography process to fabricate a microneedle array mold. It then sputters or electroplates metal material on the mold. The microneedle array is formed after having taken off the mold.

  • Patent number: 7700016
Abstract: An apparatus and method for fabricating a three dimensional model from a composite model formed or a plurality of successive layers of model material and sacrificial mold material. Each successive layer is constructed by depositing, drop-by-drop, at least one line of sacrifical mold material delineating at least one boundary of the model material within the layer and thereafter depositing the model material onto all delineated regions of the layer by spray deposition. Each successive layer is completed by a planing process which removes the undesired thickness of both the sacrificial and the model materials. Following completion of the composite model, the sacrificial mold material is removable from the composite model, by a process effecting only the sacrificial mold material, to produce the three dimensional model. A device, for depositing the model material at the rate faster than the rate that the mold material is deposited, is also described.

  • Publication number: 20090302496
Abstract: A customer transmits their 3D CAD file for a part to be total profile machined. Computer analysis of the transmitted CAD file produces CNC machining instructions, which are transmitted back to an address defined by the customer. The customer can then use the transmitted CNC machining instructions to total profile machine their own part using their own CNC mill at the location where the part is likely needed. The transmitted instructions include not only the tool paths for CNC machining of the total profile of the part, but also for additional features formed into the encircling portion of a material block from which the part is to be total profile machined. For instance, the CNC machining instructions transmitted back to the customer can define a registration recess and/or channels or undercuts for fluid support material on an A-side of a material block. After the A-side of the block is machined, the customer adds and solidifies fluid support material into the machined recess.

  • Patent number: 7601286
Abstract: A method of forming a polymer-based microfluidic system platform using network building blocks selected from a set of interconnectable network building blocks, such as wire, pins, blocks, and interconnects. The selected building blocks are interconnectably assembled and fixedly positioned in precise positions in a mold cavity of a mold frame to construct a three-dimensional model construction of a microfluidic flow path network preferably having meso-scale dimensions. A hardenable liquid, such as poly (dimethylsiloxane) is then introduced into the mold cavity and hardened to form a platform structure as well as to mold the microfluidic flow path network having channels, reservoirs and ports. Pre-fabricated elbows, T's and other joints are used to interconnect various building block elements together. After hardening the liquid the building blocks are removed from the platform structure to make available the channels, cavities and ports within the platform structure.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a PVC ornamental article having effects of imitated materials includes steps of: (a) mold casting: making a prototype of a desired ornamental article, exploding said prototype into a plurality of blank elements, coating said blank elements with silicone to form hollow silicone molds, injecting a wax material into said hollow silicone molds to obtain a wax object, taking out said wax object for trimming and electroplating said wax object, and melting said wax object to obtain a mold; (b) blank formation: adding colorants into said PVC plastic material and mixing said colorants to obtain desired colors, injecting said PVC plastic material into said mold, utilizing centrifugal force to affix said PVC plastic material onto an inner wall of said mold, and removing molded PVC from said mold to form a blank by force before said molded PVC dries, filling a filler into said blank to increase hardness; and (c) assembly: assembling blanks together and joining the blanks with other decorations to

Abstract: A positioning anchor is provided for a stent-graft for implantation to treat a damaged body lumen. The positioning anchor is generally tubular surrounding a primary fluid conduit. Arms extend laterally from the generally tubular structure of the anchor surrounding lateral fluid conduits. The form of these arms is preferably custom configured to match a particular patient's luminal geometry. The anchor thus fits within the luminal geometry to remain in a desired fixed position for implantation of the anchor and any stent-graft coupled to the anchor. The anchor is most preferably formed with two walls having a void therebetween which can be filled with fixation media to further secure the anchor at the desired implantation site. A lumen shaper balloon and delivery catheter are also disclosed for proper delivery, expansion and inflation of the positioning anchor and stent-graft elements according to this invention.

  • Patent number: 6699419
Abstract: A molding process that uses a textured interfacial layer to isolate the surface of a mold from the surface of a composite article produced with the mold. A solution is deposited on the mold surface to form the interfacial layer, whose surface opposite the mold is textured. The texture of the interfacial layer is then transferred to the surface of the composite article produced with the mold. After demolding, the interfacial layer adheres to the article as a protective coating, but can be readily removed from the article to expose an underlying textured surface of the article.

Abstract: Methods of rapidly prototyping microstructures such as HARMs are disclosed. A high precision process uses polymeric microstructure replication techniques and sacrificial layer etching techniques to mass produce high aspect ratio metallic and polymer micromold inserts. In one embodiment, after fabrication of an initial micromold insert, high aspect ratio replications are created by casting replication material, such as PDMS, directly onto the initial micromold insert. The replicated HARM is coated with a sacrificial layer and then electroplated to replicate another set of micromold inserts. After the electroplating process is completed, the sacrificial layer is etched away to release the replicated micromold inserts.

Abstract: An easy-to-grip diaper fastener tab has an array of hook-shaped fastener elements arranged in parallel rows, each fastener element including a stem and a crook extending from the stem in a predetermined direction to a distal tip. The array includes a plurality of rows of fastener elements arranged such that, in each row, all of the crooks face in the same direction and parallel to the direction of the row, with the crooks of adjacent rows facing in opposite directions. The longitudinal spacing between opposing tips of adjacent hooks of adjacent rows is greater in a first portion of the array than the longitudinal spacing between opposing tips of adjacent hooks of adjacent rows in a second portion of the array, such that the crooks of the hooks of the first portion are more exposed for engaging loops than the crooks of the hooks of the second portion. Methods and molds for forming such arrays are also provided.

Abstract: Method of manufacturing a ribbed structure with fiber-reinforced composite material is provided. A mold for the structure is prepared having a mold surface. Non-hardened resin containing reinforcing fibers are placed on the mold surface of the structure mold. A mold for a rib is formed by using a material containing biodegradable polymers. Non-hardened resin containing reinforcing fibers are laminated on the rib mold, and then the rib mold is placed in a predetermined position on the non-hardened resin containing the reinforcing fibers tin the mold surface of the structure mold. The non-hardened resins are hardened and the rib mold is biochemically degraded wherein in the hardening of the resins, the resin hardened on the rib mold and the resin hardened on the mold surface of the structure mold are united with each other.
