Patent number: 5380579Abstract: The core of a honeycomb panel consists of a set of corrugated strips each of which alternate abut the immediately adjacent strips. Interlocking protrusions are formed in the abutting portions of the strips. The protrusions provide automatic registration of the strips without jigging or fixturing. Preferably the protrusions are somewhat undercut to provide a detent or snapping action upon assembly to provide mechanical integrity prior to bonding. The snapping action also holds the abutting surface together for uniform bonding. Lateral registration of the strips can be provided by, for example, forming a lance and window or mating dimples in the abutting surfaces. Bonding of the abutting surfaces can be done by soldering, brazing, or gluing. This honeycomb core structure is suitable for the continuous fabrication of panels of arbitrary length, width, and thickness.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1993Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: Accurate Tool Company, Inc.Inventor: Robert Bianchi

Patent number: 4239719Abstract: A method for continuous production of corrugated sheets of fiber-reinforced thermosetting resins, wherein a web of pre-impregnated material is corrugated by moving the web on elongated carrier elements arranged at intervals side by side. These elements are advanced along an essentially horizontal path in the corrugating zone and a subsequent heating and curing zone, and by causing the web to hang down to a desired extent between adjacent carrier elements. The carrier elements may be arranged transversely or longitudinally to the advancing direction of the web in order to obtain transverse or longitudinal corrugations. The upper surface of the web may be provided with a layer of surface protecting and decorating, crushed stone material before or after the corrugation operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1977Date of Patent: December 16, 1980Assignee: Steni A/SInventor: Asbjorn Ronning

Patent number: 4223059Abstract: A non-woven web of synthetic fibers is selectively stretched in incremental portions in a first and second station wherein the first and second station are provided with sets of rolls having grooves parallel and perpendicular, respectively, to the axis of each set of rolls to form a bi-axially stretched web. One groove pattern of the rolls is generally a sinosoidal wave with distances between grooves being less than 1.0 millimeters times the web basis weight in grams per square meter.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1978Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignee: Biax Fiberfilm CorporationInventor: Eckhard C. Patent number: 4205123Abstract: Battery separators with degradation resistant rib areas are produced from nonwoven mats of thermoplastic fibers by substantially fusing the fibers in raised regions of the mat. The fusion is progressively lessened toward the base of the rib. The rib is formed by the application of heat and pressure. The mat is also supplied with other important characteristics such as small pore size during treatment to compact its fibers.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1976Date of Patent: May 27, 1980Assignee: W. Patent number: 4184828Abstract: Machine for imprinting indicia on thermoplastic corrugated tubing comprises framework with structure connected thereto for guiding tubing along predetermined path of travel. Motivator on framework moves tubing along its path of travel, and imprinting structure mounted adjacent path of travel of tubing functions to selectively move into and out of engagement with exterior surface of tubing. Imprinting structure includes print wheel with spaced apart teeth at periphery thereof arranged to mesh with corrugated tubing when imprinting structure is in engagement therewith. Conductive print type are releasably secured to print wheel at periphery thereof, and heater cartridges function to heat print type. Print wheel is selectively shifted into engagement with exterior surface of corrugated tubing as it moves along its path of travel so that heated print type softens thermoplastic to thereby heat stamp indicia of type onto corrugated tubing.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1978Date of Patent: January 22, 1980Assignee: Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc.Inventor: Bernard T. Patent number: 4179253Abstract: A linear corrugator formed by at least two rows of discrete presses each of which is formed by mating pairs of press rolls having circumferentially extending mating ridges and grooves adapted to corrugate and consolidate dry formed web, is herein disclosed. The presses of one of said rows are staggered relative to the presses in the other of said rows, the maximum axial length of the nip of each of said presses must be between 5 and 36 inches.A method of consolidating a dry formed web by independently consolidating discrete laterally spaced areas of a dry formed web of at least 40" width, each of said discrete areas having a width of over about 5" but never exceeding 36", thereby to consolidate substantially the full width of said web.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1978Date of Patent: December 18, 1979Assignee: Domtar Inc.Inventor: Herbert D. Patent number: 4174416Abstract: Process and apparatus for treating tubular, plastics material net comprising transversely opening out a rope-oriented net, transversely corrugating the transversely opened-out net, and heat setting the net in its transversely opened-out and corrugated state. In addition, the product thereof, having a length less than 1/350th of the maximum axially-extended length of the net.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1977Date of Patent: November 13, 1979Assignee: Netlon LimitedInventor: Frank B. Patent number: 4165287Abstract: A fluid flow transfer apparatus is constructed by placing a pleated membrane within a central chamber in a housing, injecting liquid potting material into the central chamber, positioning the housing while the potting is still flowable such that the membrane tips to be anchored to the housing are horizontal at the bottom of the membrane body and the inner housing surface adjacent to those membrane tips is horizontal, allowing the liquid potting to flow between that surface and those lower membrane tips and settle uniformly therebetween, and curing the potting material to anchor those tips to the housing.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1977Date of Patent: August 21, 1979Assignee: Cobe Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Thomas E. Patent number: 4140458Abstract: An apparatus for producing a corrugated sheet from a web of deformable material, for use in cooling towers and the like, includes an endless conveyor which is adapted to move along a predetermined path of travel and on which are mounted a plurality of web molding trays. The trays have a plurality of corrugations formed therein extending generally transversely of the path of travel and means are provided for selectively locking the trays on the conveyor with the corrugations located at predetermined acute angles with respect to the path of travel of the conveyor so that the angle of the corrugations formed in the web can be varied. An air knife arrangement is provided for urging the web against the corrugations in the trays to form the corrugations in the web.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1977Date of Patent: February 20, 1979Assignee: The Munters CorporationInventor: Hans A.
