The method employs a continuous conveyor system wherein pre-heated first (top) and second (bottom) mold halves are pre-heated and pre-sorted prior to a polyurethane material being deposited in each mold half, preferably, each mold half comprises four cavities. A rotary table maneuvers the mold halves into position to receive a shot of polyurethane in each cavity. The polyurethane is dispensed from two separate mixers, each mixer having a pair of dispensing nozzles capable of shuttling back and forth between the cavities. Abstract: A system and method of mass-producing a bait station of wax matrix material for pesticide or insecticide delivery is disclosed. The apparatus and method includes a water-heated vat 110 which supplies liquid wax matrix material to molds which may be of various forms in accordance with the desired bait station to be manufactured. A fluid pump 120 pumps the wax matrix material from the vat through a tube 130 into molding tubes 140. At a molding tube station 140 the molds are filled and then carried by a conveyer belt 100 to a cooling tunnel 160. The wax-containing molds may be shaken by an in-line shaker in order to reduce air bubbles in the wax matrix. After the wax-containing molds are cooled by the cooling tunnel 160 the conveyer carries them to a labeling station 170, after which the finished bait stations are removed from their molds and packaged.

Abstract: A system and method for forming an article from thermoplastic material and fiber. The method includes heating thermoplastic material to form a molten thermoplastic material for blending with the fiber. The molten thermoplastic material is blended with the fibers to form a molten composite material having a concentration of fiber by weight. The molten composite material may then be extruded through dynamic dies to deliver discrete controlled material that is gravitated onto a lower portion of a mold. The lower portion of the mold may be moved in space and time while receiving the flow of composite material to deposit a predetermined quantity of molten composite material thereon conforming to mold cavities of the lower and an upper portion of the mold. The upper portion of the mold may be pressed against the predetermined quantity of molten composite material and closing on the lower portion of the mold to form the article.

  • Patent number: 6835338
Abstract: A system of manufacturing a molded article includes a mold having first and second parts engagable to one another to form a cavity. A first mold part is fixed to a mold station. The second part of the mold is movable between a spray station adjacent the mold station. An enclosure disposed between the mold station and the spray station contains emissions from the spray station so that the mold station is not contaminated. The molded article is fabricated by applying a surface coating at the spray station into, shuttling the movable part of the mold into alignment with the fixed part of the mold, and filling the mold with a settable mixture. The second part of the mold is released from the first part, and shuttled back to the spray station for demolding of the completed molded article.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously forming flexible mat structure in the form of spaced, interconnected concrete panels. The mat structure can serve as an erosion control mat along the banks of waterways and within drainage ditches and channels, and can also be utilized to provide temporary or permanent walkways and roadways. A rotatable drum includes peripherally-positioned mold cavities that receive concrete mix from a trough supplied from a source of concrete mix. A grid is fed against the drum periphery and over the mold cavities before the concrete mix is introduced, and after the mix is introduced a web of fibrous material is brought into contact with the concrete-mix-containing mold cavities to overlie the concrete-containing surface of the drum. As the drum rotates the fibrous material with overlying, interconnected concrete panels is deposited on the ground to provide the a finished mat structure.

Abstract: Method for compression molding plastic closures having a peripheral skirt with an internal thread includes a first mold assembly having a male mold core and a second mold assembly having a female mold cavity. At least one of the first and second mold assemblies is moved relative to the other to bring the male mold core into the female mold cavity for compression molding a closure, and then is moved to open the cavity such that the closure is retained on the male mold core. The male mold core is rotated relative to the first mold assembly to unthread the core from within the closure, and thereby strip the closure from the core, without stretching the closure skirt over the core or wiping the internal thread over the external surface of the mold core.

Abstract: A mold manufacturing system includes a conveyer circuit upon which a multiple of molds transit a closed loop and repetitively pass through a central booth. The system is separated into Zones in which a particular mold operation is performed. Each of a multiple of applying operations are performed within the central booth which contains a common exhaust plenum. Application of exceedingly expensive environmental emission control devices is at least partially mitigated. Consolidation of multiple spray operations into a few spray Zones also advantageously simplifies the control of chemical and ambient variables which improves production efficiencies and reduces operator dependency.

Abstract: A molding process is disclosed in which an extruded column of plastic is introduced into a mold cavity having a predetermined surface profile. A region of negative air pressure is created inside the mold cavity, exterior to the extruded column. The negative air pressure is applied to the exterior of the extruded column to draw the extruded column into contact with the entire surface profile of the mold cavity, to produce a molded article. The invention can also include a step of co-extruding multiple types of plastic resulting in an extruded column having multiple layers, to produce a molded article having multiple layers. The present method also includes a step of internally inserting a component into the extruded column at a predetermined position so that it will end up at a predetermined position of the molded article after the molding process.
