Abstract: An introduction process and apparatus is described concerning the continuous elution of a value, i.e. a metal value such as gold, from a particulate carrier by a counterflow of stripping liquid through the pressurized vessel in which the loaded particulate carrier is introduced to the vessel as a low velocity plug in a liquid carrier. The extraction process is also used with the continuous elution process in which the particulate material is extracted from the bottom part of a pressure vessel through a discharge pipe extending therefrom and in which a discharge liquid is introduced into the discharge pipe upstream of the discharge end under such pressure as to maintain a head of the discharge liquid upstream of that location and a flow of the liquid downstream from the location to transport the particulate material through the discharge pipe.
Abstract: A method for injecting a pulverized fuel into a blast furnace uses a pulverulent fuel injecting burner which is protruded into a blow pipe through a wall thereof near the tuyere of a blast furnace. The burner injects a pulverized fuel into the blast furnace along with a hot blast of air at a temperature higher than 950.degree. C. flowing through the blow pipe. The tip end of the burner is located at a distance L between 100 and 350 mm upstream from the boundary between the tuyere of the blast furnace and the blow pipe. According to one embodiment, the tip of the furnace is tapered by an angle .theta..ltoreq.1400L.sup.2 -1290L+295. According to a second embodiment, the inner diameter B.sub.1 of the blow pipe, and the inner and outer diameters of the burner tip (d and D) are selected such that 0.1.ltoreq.(D/Bi).ltoreq.0.25 and 0.6.ltoreq.(d/D).ltoreq.0.8. According to a third embodiment, the burner tip is removable.
Abstract: A burner for smelting metal-bearing sulfide ores or concentrates by means of an oxygen-rich gas is disclosed. The oxygen-rich gas is introduced into a chamber so as to aspirate or eject the metal-bearing sulfide ore or concentrate. The oxygen-rich gas and sulfide concentrate are intimately admixed in a cylindrical mixing chamber and then jetted into the heated atmosphere of a smelting furnace.

Abstract: A method and a means for introducing close-grained carbonaceous fuels, which are suspended in a carrier gas, and oxygen into an iron melting bath are described. In this method the fuel and the oxygen can be alternately introduced through the same introduction passage of a tuyere into an iron melting bath below the surface of the bath. The means provides for alternate supply of fuel or oxygen and is regulated by means of the oxygen line pressure.
Abstract: A tuyere for injecting hot reducing gases into a furnace is provided with an inlet pipe and a plasma oven whose gas outlet axis is inclined to the longitudinal axis of the tuyere. The angles which the outlet axis of the plasma oven and the inlet pipe form with the said longitudinal axis are such that the longitudinal axis is parallel to the vector sum of the amount of movement of the gases from the plasma oven and the inlet pipe respectively .

Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for delivery of finely divided solids into molten metal. More particularly it relates to a modular lance so constructed and arranged as to inject finely divided reactant and fluxing material, as well as gases, into molten pig iron and the like for desulfurization and other operations compatible with such equipment.
Abstract: A sprinkler burner and method for injecting solid particulate material and a gas into a reactor as a paraboloidal suspension. Means are provided to introduce the gas tangentially into an outer cylindroidal member, comprising a slot-like gas inlet in the cylindroidal member and a spiral shaped conduit communicating with the slot, such that the gas is directed around the periphery and downward between the outer cylindroidal member and an inner tubular member through which the solids are fed. The gas entrains the solids emitting from the inner tubular member and spreads the solids tangentially from the exhaust end of the outer cylindroidal member such that a paraboloidal suspension is formed within a reactor.
