Patent number: 4500077Abstract: A device for supporting a workpiece 5 from a bench 4 in any required spatial position comprises two G-clamps 1 which are adjustably fixed to a metal tube 2 by clamping devices 3. Each of the devices 3 is operated by a single clamping screw having a handle 21 and when the clamping screw has been released, the device 3 can slide along, and turn about the axis of, the tube 2. Also, the clamp 1 can turn relative to the clamping device 3 about the axis of the clamping screw and about the axis of a pin 24 which is perpendicular to the axis of the clamping screw. This enables the workpiece 5 to be set in almost any desired position and orientation relative to the bench 4 and, when set, to be locked in its set position by tightening the two clamping screws by means of their handles 21. The device is therefore extremely versatile and it can, of course, alternatively be used to hold two workpieces in position relative to each other, for example while glued joints set.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1983Date of Patent: February 19, 1985Inventor: John R. Patent number: 4418901Abstract: The vise system has a bracket section which can be secured to any flat horizontal work surface, particularly a drill press platen, with sliding and rotating degrees of freedom with respect to a bracket bolt. The bracket bolt threads into a hole in the work surface and can tighten down to rigidly hold the bracket section in position. A vise section, capable of clamping a work piece between fixed and movable jaws, is connected to the bracket section by a horizontally-oriented connecting bolt, about which the vise section can rotate, and which can be tightened to secure the vise section at any selected angle. The vise section has a rectangular cross-section, facilitating rapid self-indexing of angles 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees with respect to the bracket section. The vise system is capable of being pivoted to a position in which the vise section extends beyond the edge of the work surface in order to accommodate work pieces in orientations which would otherwise interfere with the work surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: International Design CorporationInventors: William D. Patent number: 4261555Abstract: Disclosed herein is an optical vise used to securely fasten glasses thereto for performing maintenance functions, suitably constructed so that the glasses retained therein will not be marred or otherwise damaged while being repaired. The structure disclosed herein includes a pedestal providing a support for horizontally extending trays that serve to carry tools and parts, a vertically adjustable support structure which carries at its vertical extremity remote from the base and vise proper. The vise is capable of rotation about a horizontal axis and defines a nesting area for securing foam or a similar soft resilient rubber material which serves to constrain the eye glasses disposed in a slit between two such pads. A back portion of the vise is provided with a similarly spongy material provided with slits along one face thereof so that the arcuate portion of the glasses which when in use hook around the ears of the wearer slide within these slits to provide further support.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1979Date of Patent: April 14, 1981Inventor: Thomas J. Patent number: 4209166Abstract: A universal jack and work positioning mechanism comprises a support structure having a base with a jack shaft being vertically movable relative to the support structure for vertical positioning of the work piece to be supported by the mechanism. An upwardly diverging cradle is connected to the shaft and is positioned to receive and provide primary support for a conduit work piece. A plurality of leveling arms extend from the lower portion of the cradle and orient various bottom and side positioning leveling screws in such manner that the tubular work piece is engaged at its bottom and side portions and is accurately positionable through manipulation of the leveling adjustment elements. A pivotal orienting element is supported by one of the leveling arms and is so manipulatable as to position a universal orientable adjustment element to various selective positions thus allowing adaptability of the mechanism for support and adjustment of different kinds of tubular work pieces such as pipes, tee fittings, 45.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1979Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Inventor: Adrian J.
