Abstract: MAW-DirectDrives are self-propelled independent direct drive units that connect to the inside of wheels. They rotate and stop electromagnetically and use the rotation of the wheel to generate electricity thru the incorporation of two frameless direct drive permanent magnets BLDC motors. They have one moving part, the integrated drive-plate assembly, a casted drive plate and spindle with an attached two-sided permanent magnets drive-rotor ring which engages and interacts with a customizable rear stationary power assembly responsible for supporting a vehicle and holding in position the two stators and optional air brake plus any sensors and accommodations for enhanced cooling formats. High constant torque eliminates the need for gearing and frees the second stator to harness the kinetic energy the vehicle produces during motion proportionate to the vehicle's linear momemtum plus allows every wheel on commercial vehicles to assist in its motion and power production.

Abstract: A multiple shaft seal arrangement positioned between a shaft and an inside diameter surface of an aperture in a wall. The multiple shaft seal arrangement has a flinger attached to the shaft with a face seal mounted to the flinger. A double lip oil seal is mounted to the inside diameter of the aperture. The flinger is positioned such that the face seal is pressed against the double lip oil seal. Accordingly, rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the flinger and face seal. This centrifugally throws contaminants, such as particulate matter, away from the aperture. The void between the face seal and the inside diameter of the aperture is filled with grease or similar substance. The combination of these elements greatly prohibits debris, moisture, particulate matter or other environmental elements from passing from one side of the multiple shaft seal arrangement to the other.

The sealing device is situated between the rotor and the bearing around the rotor shaft and includes at least two zero contact or frictionless seals. The sealing device successively includes between the rotor and the bearing a first zero contact seal; a double, reverse lip seal with two lips; and a second zero contact seal. The two lips are partly directed towards one another and partly directed towards the rotor shaft along their backsides. An entry for fluid under pressure opens between the lips, whereby the lips, depending on the pressure between them, are in contact with to the rotor shaft or are lifted from the rotor shaft.

  • Patent number: 6050570
Abstract: A seal for separating a viscous lubricant, such as grease, from contaminants in the surrounding environment, includes case having axial and radial walls, a shield located in the case and also having axial and radial walls, a primary seal element attached to the radial wall of the case and establishing two fluid barriers along the axial wall of the shield, and a secondary seal element attached to the radial wall of the shield and establishing another fluid barrier along the axial wall of the case. The primary seal element includes a labyrinth which is spaced slightly away from the axial wall of the shield and contains pumping cavities which drive the lubricant away from the primary seal element when relative rotation exists between the primary seal element and the shield. The primary seal element also has a contact lip provided with inside and outside beveled surfaces which converge toward a band along which the contact lip bears against the axial wall of the shield.

  • Patent number: 6024362
Abstract: A seal cartridge adapted to be mounted upon a rotating shaft, including a rotor and a stator, the rotor and stator being arranged to create a labyrinth portion and a contact portion. The rotor includes a radially outwardly directed surface and the stator includes a flange biased toward the rotor surface to create the contact portion. The rotor and stator create a labyrinth portion with a pair of inwardly facing ridges positioned within a pair of outwardly facing grooves. The stator may include a shoulder for positioning the seal cartridge with respect to the housing, or instead a sloped surface. A spring may be used to bias the flange firmly toward the contact surface of the rotor. The rotor may also have a flange which deforms and fits within an annular notch of the stator.

  • Patent number: 5996542
Abstract: The invention relates to a flinger device for preventing the ingress of foreign matter such as dust or grit to the vicinity of a contact surface between a rotary shaft lubricant seal and the shaft. The device is adapted to locate on an end of the shaft and has a radially extending flange portion which fits closely adjacent to a radially extending outer end surface for retaining the seal in contact with the shaft. The device also has an axially extending wall part whose outer circumferential surface locates closely adjacent to an axially extending inner surface of the seal retainer. The surfaces of the flange portion and wall part of the device co-operate to prevent or at least restrict the ingress of foreign matter to the vicinity of the seal/shaft contact surface.

  • Patent number: 5975533
Abstract: A sealed shaft bearing assembly employs a lubricant seal having a rigid seal case supporting a resilient dust seal in rubbing contact with a cylindrical surface on the shaft, and a labyrinth type primary seal between the dust seal and the interior of the seal case, with the labyrinth being defined by a stator mounted on the seal case and a rotor mounted for rotation with the shaft, and with the stator including a cylindrical tubular portion defining an elongated thin annular gap with the shaft cylindrical surface and the rotor defining an elongated thin annular gap with the outer surface of the rotor. The radial thickness and axial lengths of the thin annular gaps are such as to preclude the passage of grease type lubricant therethrough upon operation of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 5967524
Abstract: A system for providing a labyrinth seal and a contact seal between a housing and a shaft is formed of a stator and a rotor connected to each other. The stator includes a flange biased toward the rotating shaft to prevent fluid from exiting the housing. The rotor rotates frictionlessly relative to the stator, creating a two-piece non-contact labyrinth seal to prevent contaminants from entering the housing. The rotor and stator may be held together by an annular protrusion located within a recess.

  • Patent number: 5961124
Abstract: A sealing system for an essentially vertical shaft includes an active sealing element disposed between a first structural part rotating with the shaft and a second structural part stationary on a housing. A wall of the housing separates an upper oil-free volume from a lower volume containing oil. The oil flows through the sealing system through a gap formed by the first structural part and a third structural part stationary on the housing. The active sealing element is preferably a threaded shaft seal. In another embodiment, the active sealing element is a combination of a primary contact seal and a threaded shaft seal. The oil flow removes heat generated by the rotating system.

  • Patent number: 5895052
Abstract: A device for sealing the annular gap between a housing and a shaft supported in the housing. The device comprises an inner ring, an outer ring, and an elastomeric sealing member joined to the outer ring. The sealing member has three sealing lips, of which only the first abuts, under prestressing, against the inner ring. The two other sealing lips are configured in such a way that, between their outer ends and the sections of the inner ring lying opposite to their outer ends, gaps are formed which act as a contact-free sealing. In addition, a gap may be provided between a radially extending annular disk portion of the sealing member and an outer flanged section of the inner ring axially opposite the annular disk portion. That gap and the gaps at the ends of the second and third sealing lips form a labyrinth seal.
