  • Patent number: 10731491
Abstract: Bolt holes 16 are formed in a joint part 14 of a turbine housing 12, with flanged bolts 40 screwed in the bolt holes 16. A flange part 32 of a bearing housing 30 is sandwiched between bearing surfaces 44a of the flanged bolts 40 and an inner end face 14b of the joint part 14. A sealing ring 48 is interposed in an annular space s. Before the flanged bolts 40 are fastened, there is formed a height difference G equivalent to a compression allowance h for the sealing ring 48, between an outer end face 60a of the joint part 14 and a bolt receiving surface 32a of the flange part 32. The flanged bolts 40 are screwed into the bolt holes 16 until the bearing surfaces 44a make tight contact with the outer end face 60a so as to resiliently deform the sealing ring 48.

Abstract: A foil thrust bearing forms the primary rotating interface for a film riding face seal. This face seal includes a spring system that will allow the entire assembly to translate axially relative to a static attachment. The complete assembly will form a hybrid foil/film riding face seal that shows much promise at being sufficiently flexible to enable operation in a gas turbine engine. The seal includes a flexible top plate having a non-flat surface under its working conditions, and a spring support system to allow the top plate to accommodate axial excursions and out-of-flat distortions.

  • Patent number: 6362548
Abstract: A housing member for an actuator assembly for adjusting the orientation of a mirror element in a mirror assembly provides integral weather seals and noise dampeners. The weather seals and noise dampeners are injection molded with or onto a base wall of the housing member to thereby form seals and dampeners that have superior adhesion or mechanical retention to the housing member and, therefore, are not subject to degradation from noise. In addition, the integral seals and dampeners reduce the time and cost of assembling and servicing the actuator assembly. The housing member includes a base wall, and a sidewall which connects to the base wall and extends around the perimeter of the base wall. The side wall includes connectors for securing the first housing to the second housing.

  • Patent number: 6003874
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing a rotary tube drum of a furnace to another furnace component. Two concentric resilient metal ring segments are provided on a disk to comprise the sealing elements of the present invention. A plurality of springs arranged as a ring apply pressure to the disk and ring segments to ensure a consistent and self-adjusting seal between the joined components. Links located circumferentially about the disk limit lateral movement, yet allow axial movement, of the seal. It is thereby possible, according to the present invention, to provide a resilient seal between a rotary tube and another component of a furnace that yields a self-adjusting gas-impermeable seal between the mating components.

  • Patent number: 5865441
Abstract: The shaft seal assembly of cartridge designed for sealing shafts entering or exiting enclosed vessels. The enclosed vessels may have a pressure different from the atmospheric pressure and the seal will normally prevent leakage from or into the vessel. The seal is accomplished by having a plurality of fluid pressures presented to different faces or portions of the seals. Utilization of these pressures provides a seal between the faces of the rotating parts and the stationary parts of the seal with a minimum of friction. This reduced friction is a result of some amount of air movement between the sealing faces. This air movement into and out of the seal, resulting from fluid pressure differentials, will also carry away any contaminants that may get into the seal, either to the ambient atmosphere or to a recovery system. The seal is designed to accept axial and radial shaft displacement while maintaining a positive seal between the vessel and the atmosphere.
