Abstract: An apparatus for retaining lubrication oil at the sliding surface of a double-type shaft seal device disposed within an oil chamber of a submersible pump. The apparatus prevents lubrication oil from scattering from the center portion of the oil chamber of the submersible pump toward the circumferential wall, and prevents entrapment of air into the lubrication oil through formation of an oil film in the oil outlet, irrespective of variation in rotational speed of the pump shaft, so that the seal apparatus is lubricated and cooled effectively.

  • Patent number: 6632075
Abstract: The invention concerns a sealing- and cooling system for a submersible machine, such as a pump or a mixer. The device comprises an easily replaceable (4) containing mechanical face seals with an intermediate room for a barrier liquid where a circulation pump (10) is arranged for circulation of said liquid along the seals as well as around the driving unit (1) of the machine. During circulation, the liquid passes a first narrow gap (6) around the driving unit where heat is absorbed and a second narrow gap (7) where heat is discharged.

  • Patent number: 6589022
Abstract: The compressor has a cooling structure to effectively cool a shaft seal device interposed between a housing of the compressor and a rotary shaft. The front housing has a through-hole through which the rotary shaft extends, and the shaft seal device is arranged in the through-hole. A passage (suction passage portion) is connected to the thorough-hole. An inlet from a portion of the passage to the through-hole is arranged right above the rotary shaft, and an outlet from the through-hole to a portion of the passage is arranged right below the rotary shaft. The passage is connected to a suction pressure region outside the compressor and to the suction chamber via the through-hole.

  • Patent number: 6504888
Abstract: A reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for a nuclear reactor that permits measurement of the flow through each reactor internal pump (RIP) is described. The reactor pressure vessel also includes at least one reactor internal pump that includes an impeller and a pump diffuser. At least two seal rings extend circumferentially around an outer surface of the diffuser housing outer wall and are located in circumferential grooves in the housing outer wall. At least one lateral bore extends through the housing outer wall into a diffuser housing longitudinal flow passage. Each lateral bore is located in an area between two adjacent seal rings, with each inter-seal ring area containing one lateral bore. At least one pressure tap bore extends from the outer surface of the RPV bottom head petal, through the pump deck to an inner surface of a pump deck opening. Each pressure tap bore is aligned with an area in the RIP containing a corresponding lateral bore.

  • Patent number: 5865441
Abstract: The shaft seal assembly of cartridge designed for sealing shafts entering or exiting enclosed vessels. The enclosed vessels may have a pressure different from the atmospheric pressure and the seal will normally prevent leakage from or into the vessel. The seal is accomplished by having a plurality of fluid pressures presented to different faces or portions of the seals. Utilization of these pressures provides a seal between the faces of the rotating parts and the stationary parts of the seal with a minimum of friction. This reduced friction is a result of some amount of air movement between the sealing faces. This air movement into and out of the seal, resulting from fluid pressure differentials, will also carry away any contaminants that may get into the seal, either to the ambient atmosphere or to a recovery system. The seal is designed to accept axial and radial shaft displacement while maintaining a positive seal between the vessel and the atmosphere.
