  • Publication number: 20080265521
Abstract: A combination seal is attached to a bearing comprising a fixed element and a rotating element which rotate relative to each other, so as to seal an inner side and an outer side of the bearing. The combination seal is comprised of a seal ring and a slinger. The seal ring is comprised of a reinforcing ring and an elastic seal supported by the reinforcing ring. A leading end side of the elastic seal, supported by the reinforcing ring extending toward the slinger, is brought into contact with a surface of the slinger, which is opposite to the seal ring, when the combination seal is attached to the bearing. During a combining work process, when combining the seal ring and the slinger to form the combination seal, a seal lip does not turn over and the seal lip can be held toward a predetermined direction without using a specific jig during the combining work process and without being particularly careful during performance of the combining work process.

Abstract: Advantageous seal systems are provided that include a barrier member movable relative to a shaft to allow sequential engagement of resilient seal members, e.g., lip seals, with the shaft. Movement of the barrier member may be effected manually or through introduction of pressurized fluid to effect piston-like movement. The sealing lip includes an inner portion located adjacent the hub and an outer portion spaced from the hub. The outer portion defines a nose. The seal includes a hinge portion formed as a one-piece construction with the hub and the sealing lip, and the hinge portion pivotably interconnects the sealing lip to the hub so that the sealing lip is selectively manually movable to and between: (i) an operative position, where the nose is located axially outward of the second axial end of the hub; and, (ii) a non-operative installation position, where the lip is located axially inward of the second axial end of the hub. The hinge portion biases the sealing lip away from the operative position when the sealing lip is moved to the non-operative position, and the hinge portion biases the sealing lip away from the non-operative position when the sealing lip is moved to the operative position.

Abstract: The face pressure of a seal lip for sealing is made sharp to improve the sealing ability and the seal lip is prevented from being deformed abnormally when a shaft is inserted therein. In the constitution, the inside diameter of the corner face of the sealing face is smaller than the outside diameter of the shaft. When the outside surface of the support section of the support ring expands the expandable inner surface, the inside diameter of the sealing face is also expanded diametrically to closely contact the corner face of the sealing face with the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6752398
Abstract: A valve stem seal assembly incorporates a cylindrical retainer having an axis and an upper end about which symmetrically and circumferentially arranged, alternating first and second sets of fingers have radially inwardly depending upper ends. The first set of fingers is generally parallel to the axis and the upper ends are generally perpendicular to the axis to engage a first exterior annular groove of an elastomeric seal body. The first set of fingers provides for axial attachment of the seal body to a top of a valve guide. The second set of fingers is generally arcuate and the upper ends extend radially inwardly to engage a second exterior annular groove of the seal body. The second set of fingers eliminates the need for a garter spring used by traditional valve stem seal assemblies by generating a force to urge the sealing lip against a reciprocating valve stem.

Abstract: In a known rotary shaft seal with two sealing lips, a first diaphragm body (20) with a first sealing lip (21) is mounted on a support element (22) and inserted in a second diaphragm body (23) with a second sealing lip (27) that rests against a pressure mount (24) and is mounted in the bearing mount (1). The object of the invention is to prevent the pressure medium from passing through the gap (26) between the two diaphragm bodies, which is open towards the pressure side, and ensure that the first diaphragm body can be displaced in the second along this gap. According to the invention, the first diaphragm body (2) is mounted on a support element (3) and inserted from the unpressurized side into the second diaphragm body (4), which serves to mount the seal in the bearing mount (1), reaches around a pressure mount (5) on the unpressurized side and secures it against axial movement.

One point is the tail portion of an axial flange swaged into a groove in the rack, and a second part of the same axial flange has a groove for retaining a locking ring in a second groove in the rack. The rack moves within a housing having a first bore, a counterbore, and an enlarged bore. The seal comprises two oppositely facing lips and a lip body bonded to a radial flange of the seal assembly and engaging the enlarged bore which divides the space into two pressurizable fluid receiving cavities. An auxiliary seal is seated in the counterbore and seals the first bore. The seal assembly has a nose portion which engages the auxiliary seal to fully seat it in the counterbore. The nose portion, in one case, is a separate axially extending plastic piece that seats in a groove in the seal body.
