  • Patent number: 8517389
Abstract: A fixing arrangement for a rubber seal for sealing a rolling bearing is proposed which can be easily mounted in position by press-fitting and which prevents rotation of the rubber seal together with the rotary member of the bearing. A thick-walled fitting portion 3 and a protrusion 4 are formed on the radially outer portion of a rubber seal 1 reinforced by a metal core 2. The fitting portion 3 is press-fitted in a seal groove 22 formed in the radially inner surface of an outer race 21 at each end. The protrusion 4 is brought into elastic contact with a large-diameter cylindrical surface 23 formed on the outer race 21. Thus, the rubber seal 1 is fixed in position and prevented from rotating together with the inner race of the bearing.

Abstract: Mounting rings and methods for mounting structures to shafts are provided. The rings and methods may be used to mount other rings or housings to a shaft. The rings are characterized by having flexible inner diameters that can deflect under a radial load. The radial deflection of the inner diameter permits the rings to deflect and engage an outer diameter of a shaft. The engagement of the rings with a shaft provides at least some resistance to movement, for example, rotation and/or axial displacement, of the shaft relative to the ring and structure. In one aspect, the ring has a closed, hollow, construction, for example, a circular, oval, or polygonal closed, hollow construction. The ring may include a plurality of indentations, such as slots, on the inside diameter of the ring that may relieve at least some of the circumferential stress in the ring. Abstract: A novel hydrodynamically lubricated compression type rotary seal that is suitable for lubricant retention and environmental exclusion. Particularly, the seal geometry ensures constraint of a hydrodynamic seal in a manner preventing skew-induced wear and provides adequate room within the seal gland to accommodate thermal expansion. The seal accommodates large as-manufactured variations in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the sealing material, provides a relatively stiff integral spring effect to minimize pressure-induced shuttling of the seal within the gland, and also maintains interfacial contact pressure within the dynamic sealing interface in an optimum range for efficient hydrodynamic lubrication and environment exclusion. The seal geometry also provides for complete support about the circumference of the seal to receive environmental pressure, as compared the interrupted character of seal support set forth in U.S. Pat. Nos.

Abstract: A sealing device primarily for sealing off a slit-shaped space between two radially extending surfaces arranged about a shaft and axially displaceable relative to each other along the shaft includes a first sleeve-shaped seal part and an elastically resilient sealing body. The first sleeve-shaped part forms together with the shaft an axially open space facing the cooperating surface. The elastically, resilient sealing body has in an uncompressed state a cross-sectional area and/or a shape deviating from the area and/or shape of the axially open space. The sealing body when subjected to axial forces causing the sealing body surface and the cooperating surface to abut each other is compressed sealingly between the axial space and the cooperating surface, thereby creating a sealing engagement against the entrance of the slit-shaped space and against the shaft.

The radial seal can also be designed with two axially oriented projections disposed at different diameters on one side of the disk portion for projecting into an annular groove on the frontal face of the outer ring of the linear ball bearing. By constructing the projections with circumferential outer faces that slightly diverge in a cone-shaped manner, the projections further inhibit the seal from falling out of the groove.
