  • Patent number: 6093467
Abstract: A gasket having two opposed faces and an edge disposed therebetween is given a wide coating on the edge. The coating is sufficiently wide so that it goes from corner to corner on the edge and protrudes past the corner on at least one side of the gasket in a direction perpendicular to a facial plane of the gasket. The coating protrudes in an amount effective to give the gasket a sealing ability which is better than the sealing ability of the same gasket if it had a coating merely extending from corner to corner without protruding.

  • Patent number: 6089572
Abstract: An improved three layer metal gasket is disclosed incorporating both primary and secondary combustion seals for increased combustion seal area durability. The gasket has three plates, a first plate, a second plate, and a third plate. The first and third plates have opposed sealing beads that form the secondary combustion seal. The first and second plates cooperate to position the primary combustion seal and the secondary combustion seal along a central axis such that in operation the opposed sealing beads compress equally, thereby further improving the durability of the combustion area of the gasket. The gasket may further include a fluid seal. Specialized coatings may be used to enhance the sealability of both primary and secondary combustion seals and the fluid seal.

  • Patent number: 6062572
Abstract: A metal gasket including a thin metal plate (1) provided with beads (3) and step members (4) each of which includes a coating layer having a property of high load resistance. The step member (4) is attached to the bead along a convex ridge of the bead (3), thereby increasing a quantity of compression of the bead (3), to cause a great surface pressure and decreasing an amplitude of stress in the bead (3) to improve a property of fatigue resistance of the bead (3). Also, the step member (4) is attached to the bead within a concave surface of the bead, thereby restraining the quantity of compression of the bead (3) to improve the property of fatigue resistance of the bead (3) and assuring the surface pressure on the concave surface of the bead by the step member (4).
