    Abstract: A metal gasket for establishing a gas and fluid-tight seal between two members and which is resistant to temperatures of greater than 430° C. and even up to 540° C. is provided. The metal gasket is made of a 200 series stainless steel which includes, by weight percentage: up to 1.0% Silicon, 3.5-5.5% Manganese, up to 0.060% Phosphorus, up to 0.030% Sulfur, 17.5-19.5% Chromium, 0.50-2.00% Molybdenum, 4.0-6.0% Nickel, 0.10-1.00% Niobium, 0.08-0.30% Nitrogen and the remainder of Iron. This particular alloy has been found to provide the gasket with very high mechanical strength, even at temperatures of up to 540° C. Additionally, due to the low nickel content of the 200 series stainless steel, the metal gasket may be made more cost-effectively than other known metal gaskets.

    Abstract: An engine includes an engine block that defines a drain-back passage and a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) passage. The drain-back passage and the PCV passage are disposed in fluid communication with each other. A cylinder head is attached to the engine block. The cylinder head defines an oil return passage. The oil return passage is disposed in fluid communication with both the drain-back passage and the PCV passage. A head gasket is disposed between the engine block and the cylinder head, and includes a shelf that extends at least partially over the PCV passage to prevent liquids draining through the oil return passage into the drain-back passage, from entering the PCV passage, while allowing gasses flowing through the oil return passage to enter the PCV passage.

The step height portion is increased in diameter in a tapered fashion and inserted into an insertion hole of a cylinder head. The shoulder portion is annularly extended in an inlet portion of the insertion hole opposed to the step height portion. The vibration insulator includes an annular tolerance ring on an inner circumferential inclined face thereof with recessed tapered faces opposed to the tapered face of the step height portion and which abuts the tapered face. The taper angles of the tolerance ring and of the step height portion are set so as to be different.
