An insert is engageable with the bore, forming a primary seal between the insert and portion of the liner outlet. Further, a tapered compression surface of the insert engages a tapered bore portion of the liner outlet adjacent the primary seal for compressing the liner outlet and closing any annular assembly clearance at the primary seal for obviating opportunity for seal extrusion under pressure. An axial position in the boss, and dimensional integrity, of the liner outlet is maintained by engaging an annular distal end of the liner outlet in the bore by a stop. • Patent number: 7682490
Abstract: The present invention features a flange to flange dynamic seal and sealing system, particularly suited for use within high temperature, high pressure environments, such as a delayed coking process. The dynamic flange seal and sealing system comprises two primary elements or seals, each of which are capable of independently forming a flange seal between two flanged components or combining to create a flange seal. Specifically, these primary seals are an iconel bellows seal and a bi-material gasket, each of which surround a flange opening along a sealing surface. The flange seal created by the dynamic flange seal and sealing system is capable of being maintained in light of, or rather the sealing system adapts to, any structural or environmental changes within the connected flanges. As such, the flange seal may be a dynamic flange seal or a static flange seal or both.

Abstract: In the present invention, a cable 105 is laid along sewer branch 101 to point B and then travels through a dedicated conduit directly to point C. As the cost of laying cable through a sewer can be cheaper and is usually less disruptive than laying cable in a dedicated conduit, the method of the present invention may reduce the cost of providing a cable link in situations such as A-C wherein a convenient sewer extends only part way between the cable end points.

  • Patent number: 7637508
Abstract: A long life high pressure seal stack provides a reliable and efficient seal between a plunger and housing of a plunger type pump. The seal stack includes a high pressure sealing element and a low pressure sealing element, both of which provide a sealing extension which surrounds and is in contact with the plunger. The sealing extension is configured to be exposed to internal pressures within the valve, thus urging the sealing extension tighter against the plunger when pressures are high, while relaxing the sealing extension when pressures are low. By incorporating this variable pressure feature, the friction between the plunger and the seal is greatly reduced, especially during low pressure conditions. Further, the sealing elements are constructed of a low friction material, thus avoiding problems related to potential overheating of a seal element.

  • Patent number: 7478839
Abstract: An expansion joint lies between a device and pipe and allows for movement at the joint. Embodiments utilize a case pipe, a sliding ring formed to house seals, and a flange that holds the sliding ring in place. A pipe contacts an inner seal inside the sliding ring which is compressed against the pipe beyond its memory and forms a tight seal, yet allows for pipe to move through the apparatus. At least one outer seal is compressed within its memory which allows for rotation of pipe and/or sliding ring relative to the apparatus about the axis of the pipe. Allows for unlimited travel of pipe and unlimited rotation. The apparatus becomes more efficient as contaminants fill the seals. Works below, at and beyond 1300 degree media, for example any liquid or gas. May be disassembled easily maintained.

  • Patent number: 7467799
Abstract: A composite metal seal includes core of relatively hard metal, and at least one annular region of relatively soft metal. The annular region of relatively soft metal is integrally bonded with the core of relatively hard metal, and has an annular sealing surface for providing a fluid pressure seal. Such a composite metal seal can be manufactured by welding an overlay of the relatively soft metal onto a workpiece of the relatively hard metal; and machining the overlay of the relatively soft metal to form the annular sealing surface. In a preferred construction, the seal is a ring including two annular regions of the relatively soft metal, which provide tapered annular sealing surfaces for engaging respective sealing surfaces of two mating hubs. Such a seal ring can be used in a subsea collet-actuated pipeline connector to permit a metal-to-metal seal connection to be made and broken a number of times.

  • Publication number: 20070267824
Abstract: A sealing and gripping element for an expandable downhole tool features a ring supporting a sealing material with radially extending rings into the sealing material during run in. Expansion of the underlying ring brings the sealing material into contact with the surrounding tubular. It also forces the radially extending rings through the sealing material and into contact with the surrounding tubular. As a result the tips of the extending rings are blunted to create metal to metal seals on the surrounding tubular. Hardened inserts are also located within the sealing material for run in. Upon expansion of the underlying base ring, the inserts break through the sealing material and penetrate the surrounding tubular to enhance grip when high differential pressures are encountered.
