Plural Interfitting Seal Members For Installation On The Individual Joined Pipes, Conduits, Or Cables Patents (Class 277/603)
  • Patent number: 6286839
Abstract: A ring seal contains a core made from an elastic organic polymer and a metal jacket having a U-shaped sectional shape, which jacket surrounds the core to prevent transfer of a substance generated from the core into the sealed space. The seal of the present invention does not release a foreign material into the sealed space, nor does it require a great force for clamping. Accordingly, it is useful as a vacuum seal that achieves miniaturization and reduced weight of a vacuum apparatus. In particular, by making the sectional shape of the metal jacket a U shape, the core can be easily detached and attached for fitting after forming the jacket, and the inside of the jacket can be washed easily.

  • Patent number: 6264203
Abstract: A method for repairing cracked jet pump riser assemblies in a boiling water reactor utilizes a spacer clamp and a seal collar. The spacer clamp is secured to the riser assembly to limit horizontal displacement of the riser assembly, and the seal collar is secured around the weld joining the riser elbow and the thermal sleeve to limit leakage from the weld over a predetermined range of horizontal displacement defined by the spacer clamp. A method for repairing a circumferential weld connecting an elbow of a jet pump riser assembly with a thermal sleeve involves positioning the weld within a seal collar and securing the seal collar on the jet pump riser assembly so that seals of the seal collar sealingly contact the elbow and the thermal sleeve, respectively, circumferentially on opposite sides of the weld.

Abstract: A metal to metal seal and a method of forming the same includes providing a pair of opposed clamping faces. Each of the clamping faces surround apertures. Seal grooves serve to widen each of the apertures. Each of the seal grooves have truncated angular corners. A malleable metal sealing ring is positioned in the seal grooves. The sealing ring has truncated angular outer edges complementary to the truncated angular corners in the seal grooves. The clamping faces are clamped together in face to face relation to energize the sealing ring.
