  • Publication number: 20140117666
Abstract: A gasket and seat system for sealing a joint is disclosed. The gasket comprises, for example, an inner portion with a wall facing an interior of the coupling and an outer portion, which extends axially forming radial end walls. The inner portion of the gasket is formed with an angled wall, making the inner portion expand inwards, which angled wall interacts with a matching angled wall of the seat, such that the joint has provisions for increasing the sealing ability in cases with increased pressure in the coupling. The gasket may further have the wall facing the interior being adapted to be flush with an interior surface when mounted in the seat and may also have provisions for heat expansion and elevated pressures, in order to remain flush with the coupling at elevated temperatures and in order to ensure sealing at elevated pressures.

  • Patent number: 8684363
Abstract: A comb-like two-sided overlain gasket for sealing of dismountable flanged joints includes two sealing contact surfaces. Each contact surface defines a plurality of V shaped concentric grooves. Each of the V shaped grooves has an opening angle of 90 degrees. Each of the contact surfaces includes concentric surfaces that are disposed between each of the grooves. The concentric surfaces are created in a single plane and include a constant width that ranges from 0.2 mm to 0.6 mm. A bottom portion of the concentric grooves are rounded and have a radius that ranges from 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm. The comb-like two-sided overlain gasket also includes one of a sealing foil or a sealing plate that overlays the sealing contact surfaces and that extend beyond the concentric grooves. When compressed, the concentric grooves define a smaller volume than the volume of the sealing foil or the sealing plate.

Abstract: A “negative creep” corrugated gasket of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) for Bolted Flanged Connections (BFCs) operates under temperatures that are within the temperature interval of reverse martensitic phase transformation from martensite to austenite of the SMA. Gasket corrugation is shape-memorized to operating “swelling” at temperature of direct martensitic phase transformation from austenite to martensite of the SMA being compressed to obtain some quantity of residual contraction corresponding to stress-induced martensite formation. A free “swelling” of deformed gasket corrugation at operating temperature defines the “negative creep” effect of the gasket, and it is blocked by rigid flanges with appearance of reactive shape-recovering stresses between the gasket corrugation and flange surfaces. The reactive shape-recovering stresses have direction inverse to the direction of operating creep of the gasket providing leak-tight, multiple, automatic and continuous seal between the flanges of the BFC.

  • Patent number: 8302972
Abstract: A gasket (1) and seat (2) system for sealing a joint, such as flanges (3, 4), tube or pipe couplings, housings, shafts, is disclosed. The gasket (1) comprises according to one embodiment an inner portion (10), with a wall (17) facing an interior of the coupling and an outer portion (11), which extends axially forming radial end walls (12, 13). The inner portion (10) of the gasket (1) is formed with an angled wall (18), making the inner portion (10) expand inwards, which angled wall (18) interacts with a matching angled wall (25) of the seat (2), such that the joint has provisions for increasing the sealing ability in cases with increased pressure in the coupling.

Abstract: A two-piece flange adapter including two identical flange parts. Each flange part has two ends, with each end having a planar mating surface disposed at each end of the channel disposed on an inner diameter surface of the flange part. A projection extends from one planar mating surface and is formed to continue the channel for a predetermined distance past the planar mating surface. The other end of the flange and channel define a groove having a depth that accepts the projection of a mating flange part to form a complete channel. A gasket having a cross-sectional area with an internal cavity is compressively disposed in a pocket defined by the channel and the mating pipes. The cross-sectional area of the gasket occupies less than 87% of the pocket and can also occupy approximately 82-84% of the pocket.

Abstract: A female hydraulic coupling member has an elastomer probe seal molded to or abutting a ring-shaped metal base which is adapted to exert a compressive force on the probe seal when exposed to hydraulic fluid pressure. The compressive force causes the seal to expand in a radial direction thereby increasing its sealing effectiveness. A retainer nut for holding the seal in the receiving chamber may have an angled surface which acts to urge the seal in an inward, radial direction when an axial, compressive force is applied to the seal.

  • Patent number: 8087700
Abstract: A female hydraulic coupling member includes a bidirectional, pressure-energized probe seal for sealing between the body of the female coupling member and the cylindrical probe section of a male coupling member seated in the receiving chamber of the female member. In one embodiment, the pressure-energized seal comprises a first curved section which is oriented towards the external end of the receiving chamber in which it is installed and a second curved section oriented towards the interior end of the receiving chamber. The two curved sections are joined by a substantially straight back section. When the pressure of fluid within the coupling member is above the ambient fluid pressure, the first curved section is pressure-energized so as to increase its sealing effectiveness. When external pressure (e.g., the hydrostatic head) exceeds the pressure of fluid within the coupling member, the second curved section is pressure-energized so as to increase its sealing effectiveness.
