Patent number: 7637510Abstract: A chuck is provided for use with a manual or powered driver. The chuck has a body with angularly disposed passageways. A plurality of jaws is slidably positioned within the angularly disposed passageways. A nut is rotatably mounted about the body member and has threads defined on an inner circumference that engage jaw threads. A sleeve is in driving rotational engagement with the nut so that when the sleeve is rotated with respect to the body, the jaws are moved within the passageways. A stopping mechanism that rotates with the sleeve is provided with at least one elastic stop pawl. When the stopping mechanism rotates in a first direction that causes the gripping jaws to move to the rear of the body to a predetermined position, the stop pawl blocks the lateral surface of the gripping jaws and prevents further rotational movement of the nut.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2006Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Assignee: Shandong Weida Machinery Company LimitedInventor: Xingda Tan

Patent number: 6889986Abstract: A drill chuck has a chuck body formed with a plurality of forwardly open angled guide passages and with a radially open groove having an axially rearwardly directed front face and an axially forwardly directed rear face. Respective jaws displaceable in the passages each have a row of radially outwardly directed teeth exposed at the groove. A tightening ring engaged in the groove and having an internal screwthread meshing with the teeth of the jaws is formed with a front face axially confronting the front groove face and can rotate on the body about the axis. An angled front spring washer engaged between the front faces is elastically deformable on axial forward displacement of the tightening ring to permit limited relative axial movement of the ring and body.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2001Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Rohm GmbHInventor: Günter Horst Röhm

Patent number: 6848691Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver that may also be used for hammer drilling. The chuck is constructed so that during normal operation for its intended purpose, the jaws holding a shaft for a tool do not loosen. The chuck includes at least one pawl to engage teeth on a gear ring such that rotation of a ring driver in a jaw gripping direction causes the gear ring to rotate. When the jaws tightly grip the shaft, the gear ring will frictionally engage a portion of the chuck so that the gear ring is rotationally locked to the chuck body. At the same time, the pawl engages the gear ring such that rotation of the ring driver and thus movement of the jaws in a non-jaw gripping direction is prevented during normal use of the hammerlock chuck.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2002Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Assignee: Shandong Weida Machinery Co., Ltd.Inventors: Guimo Yang, Xingda Tan

Patent number: 6832764Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a housing and a rotatable drive shaft extending therefrom is provided. The chuck includes a generally cylindrical body member having a nose section and a tail section. Each of a plurality of jaws is slidably positioned in one of a plurality of angularly disposed passageways in the body. Each jaw has a jaw face formed on one side thereof and threads formed on the opposite side thereof. A nut is rotatably mounted on the body in engagement with the jaw threads so that rotation of the nut moves the jaws axially within the passageways. A locking member, in a first axial position, is rotatable with respect to the driver housing. In a second axial position, it operatively engages the housing and the nut so that the locking member is rotationally held to the housing and the nut so that the nut is rotationally held to the housing. The locking member is axially reciprocal between the first axial position and the second axial position.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2002Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Assignee: Power Tool Holders IncorporatedInventors: Stephen W. Patent number: 6824141Abstract: A chuck is provided having a body, oblique guides converging toward a forward portion of the body, and a groove around the body. A slidable jaw within each guide includes outer threads. A rotatable mechanism engaging the groove includes threads for engaging the jaw threads. A toothed member extends around the body. An inner sleeve extends over and rotates the mechanism, while moving the jaws toward the forward portion. An outer sleeve extends over the inner sleeve. A metal intermediate sleeve between the inner and outer sleeves engages two spring members engaged with the inner sleeve. A first torque application rotates the intermediate sleeve with respect to the inner sleeve and causes one of the spring members to ratchet with the toothed member. A greater second torque application to the intermediate sleeve causes the other spring member to prevent rotation between the intermediate and inner sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2003Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Assignee: Yukiwa Seiko Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kazuo Sakamaki, Akira Sakamaki, Chokichi Sato, Tadashi Taniguchi

Patent number: 6805206Abstract: A hammer is provided which enables the orientation of a tool or bit mounted within a spindle of the hammer to be rotated to the required orientation. The hammer comprises a housing part having an aperture therein in which a spindle that is mounted so that the spindle extends out of the housing through the aperture. The spindle is capable of being rotated about its axis to any of a plurality of orientations, so as to alter the orientation of a tool or bit mounted therein. A locking ring is located around the spindle which locking ring can be moved axially along the spindle into and out of engagement with the housing part, so that when the locking ring engages the housing, it prevents the spindle from rotating with respect to the housing. A grip ring is located around the spindle and can be rotated about the axis of the spindle from a first position in which it prevents disengagement of the locking ring from the housing.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2002Date of Patent: October 19, 2004Assignee: Black & Decker, Inc.Inventor: Andreas Hanke
