Patent number: 4921269Abstract: Disclosed is a utility trailer having one or more stabilizers attached thto. The stabilizer is comprised of a pair of flat arms pivoted to the trailer and extending away therefrom, the arms defining holes disposed one above the other. A stanchion is vertically translatable through the holes in the arms and a spring in tension is stretched between the free end of the arms, whereby the free ends are biased toward each other and the edges of the arm holes bind against the stanchion to hold it in position. The arms may be pivoted away from each other to free the stanchion from the edges of the arm holes so as to allow the stanchion to be vertically translated to a new position relative to the trailer. A ground engaging foot is connected to the lower end of the stanchion.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventor: Andrew J. The draw bar is provided with a rearwardly opening slot that is adapted to receive therein a pin on the forward portion of the tongue connected to the vehicle to be towed. The rear leg of the U-shaped locking member is movable across the rearwardly opening slot in the draw bar to lock the tongue pin therein. The U-shaped locking member is biased to the closed or locking position by a spring, and a manually operable locking pin is movably mounted on the draw bar to releasably lock the U-shaped locking member in an open or a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1977Date of Patent: July 11, 1978Assignee: N.B.F. Company, Inc.Inventor: Newman Clarence Foley

Patent number: 4063750Abstract: A trailer frame is provided with a positioning member for releasably receiving a towbar and parking stand thereto. The towbar is provided with a releasable locking device thereon for positioning the towbar in a plurality of positions. Generally, the towbar is adaptable for positioning in a towing position, an operating position, and a storage position.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1976Date of Patent: December 20, 1977Assignee: American Air Filter Company, Inc.Inventor: Paul Mutchler

Patent number: 4057266Abstract: An elongated bar is mounted on a trailer tongue for longitudinal sliding and lateral pivoting movement relative thereto, the forward end of the bar providing releasable engagement with a trailer hitch ball component on a tow vehicle. In one embodiment the forward end of the bar has a centering notch arranged to engage the stem of the hitch ball, the bar underlying the companion hitch socket component on the trailer tongue. In another embodiment the forward end of the bar is provided with the socket component of a trailer hitch for engagement with the companion ball component on a tow vehicle. The rearward end of the bar is connected to a pair of restraining chains or rods which are connected to laterally spaced terminals on the tongue, such that the chains or rods limit the rearward, forward and lateral movement of the bar.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1976Date of Patent: November 8, 1977Inventors: Lee Holmes Duncan, Lee Harold Duncan

Patent number: 4054301Abstract: A waste collection system including a trailer and a towing vehicle which is selectively interconnectable with the trailer. The trailer, which may be divided into a number of separate interior compartments, has a prow-shaped forward end wall which extends beyond and above the trailer hitch to enlarge the material-receiving capacity of the trailer. A towing vehicle is disclosed which can selectively elevate and tilt the trailer sufficiently to dump the contents of the trailer. An alternative towing vehicle is disclosed which provides a trailer hitch having a limited extent of vertical adjustment necessary to raise and lower a parking support associated with the trailer. The trailer is provided with a ground support stand which is automatically locked in downward support position.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1975Date of Patent: October 18, 1977Assignee: Swacars, Inc.Inventors: Ronald L. Bond, E. C. Daughdrill, Henry T. Brice, Phineas E. Horton, III

Patent number: 3997191Abstract: A castor wheel, preferably of the swivel type is mounted at the distal end of a leg support which is in turn connected to pivot on an axle transverse and beneath the tongue of a trailer. Means are provided to connect a winch associated with the trailer tongue to the leg support opposite the castor. The application of force through the winch pulls the castor wheel downward beneath the trailer tongue, thereby adjusting the elevation of a hitch mechanism carried by the trailer tongue.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1975Date of Patent: December 14, 1976Inventor: W. Patent number: 3989276Abstract: A mounting plate enables the stand to be mounted to any standard hitch bar. A front leg is pivoted by the upper end thereof to the front of the plate and extends downwardly and rearwardly thereof, terminating in a curved ground engaging skid. Over-center linkage is pivoted between the skid and the mounting plate extending upwardly and rearwardly towards said mounting plate when in the extended position. A lever action makes or breaks the over-center linkage thereby extending or retracting the jack stand.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1975Date of Patent: November 2, 1976Inventor: Arthur J. Hamerl

Patent number: 3976284Abstract: A concrete mixer truck and a concrete mixer trailer with each adapted for mixing a concrete mix in transit and at a construction site and for discharging the mix at the site. The concrete mixer trailer towed by a concrete mixer truck includes a leading axle, an intermediate axle, and a trailing axle mounted on a trailer frame in longitudinally spaced relation and each having dual wheels on each of the opposite ends thereof for substantially equal weight distribution thereon. A longitudinally adjustable tongue structure has one end thereof pivotally connected to a leading end portion of the trailer frame for vertical swinging movement and the other end thereof adapted to be connected to a concrete mixing truck.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1975Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Inventor: Danny R. Patent number: 3944259Abstract: An improved trailer jacking device and method. The device comprises a trailer tongue frame, an adjustable pivotal strut mounted medially of said frame, and caster and wheel provided with a lock at the lower end of the strut. To connect a vehicle to a trailer equipped with such device, the strut stands in a position back past vertical, holding the tongue and female hitch member at a predetermined height, and the vehicle above the elevation of the hitch ball is backed toward the trailer tongue. As the vehicle pushes the trailer tongue backward, the strut will pivot forward, lowering the female member on the ball hitch and removing the weight of the trailer tongue from the strut. The strut is then moved upward to stowage position, or removed for stowage in the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1975Date of Patent: March 16, 1976Inventor: Daniel C. Miller
