  • Patent number: 11266901
Abstract: A motorized skateboard has a maneuverable rear truck. The riding platform on which the user stands includes a rotatable steering platform that the rider can step on with his rear foot. In the nominal position the steering platform extends slightly above the rest of the riding platform and is locked from rotating. When a user steps on the steering platform, the steering platform gets pushed downward against a spring. The downward movement causes a wedge to force apart two pawl level arms, thus disengaging respective pawls from a ratchet thereby unlocking the steering. In this position the steering platform is rotationally coupled to the rear truck through two spur gears acting in serial such that as the user pivots his foot clockwise, the rear truck turns counterclockwise, and vice versa. The result is a steering motion that is similar to turning a snowboard.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides advantageous skateboard assemblies (e.g., advantageous skateboard mounting member assemblies). More particularly, the present disclosure provides advantageous adjustable mounting members/assemblies for skateboards and related methods of use. In exemplary embodiments, the present disclosure provides for adjustable, movable, slideable, rotatable, interchangeable and/or removable mounting members/assemblies for skateboards. The skateboard mounting member assemblies typically include a contoured or shaped top surface (e.g., ergonomically curved, shaped and/or contoured top surface), each contoured/shaped top surface configured and dimensioned to provide the user/rider an advantageous surface that a user/rider can position a foot (or feet) onto/over during use (e.g., a surface that a user/rider can utilize to place or position a foot directly onto/above, with the bottom side of the user's foot contacting the contoured top surface of the mounting member assembly).

  • Patent number: 9550108
Abstract: A skateboard truck (200, 300), including a hanger (102?, 102??) carrying an axle (104), and a baseplate (108?, 108??). The axle holds a pair of wheels, which are steered in unison by the axle. The baseplate is coupled to the hanger to permit hanger rotation about a dynamic hanger rotation axis (138?). A static mechanism (202, 302) enforces a static pivot point at a locus (111, 109?) through which the dynamic hanger rotation axis passes during turning operation. Also, a dynamic mechanism (204, 402) causes the dynamic hanger rotation axis to pass through a plurality of dynamic hanger pivot points during that turning operation. Roll of the baseplate about a skateboard roll axis (152) is operable to cause a steering rotation of the axle, and also changes the action angle (150) of the truck.

The connection mechanism has a vertical pivoting mechanism and a lateral pivoting mechanism. The skimboard further includes a handle mechanism connected with the vertical pivoting mechanism and the lateral pivoting mechanism of the connection mechanism for respective limited vertical pivoting and lateral pivoting of the handle relative to the planar board. The handle mechanism has a length of 80 to 120 percent of a length of the board, such that in a non-pivoted position a handgrip connected with the handle mechanism is positioned within 20 percent of the length of the board from the tail, and such that the limited vertical pivoting of the handle by the rider positions the upper stem portion substantially horizontal and proximate the rider's waist.

Abstract: Improved trucks for skateboards, skateboards having improved trucks, and methods of obtaining or providing skateboards with improved trucks. Trucks have two axles or axes, two primary wheels, and two secondary wheels, and skateboards have eight wheels, four in front and four at the rear portion of the skateboard. The four primary wheels support most or all of the weight of the skateboard when the skateboard is on a flat surface, and the two secondary wheels support the weight of one portion of the skateboard (e.g., front or rear) when the primary wheels cross a crack (e.g., a sidewalk contraction joint). In various embodiments, the primary wheels are located outboard of the secondary wheels, are wider, or both. Further, in a number of embodiments, the axis of rotation or axle of the primary wheels remains parallel to that of the secondary wheels, whether the skateboard is going straight or turning.
