Patent number: 8308195Abstract: The first step is fabricating a sheet with a front face divided into 4 quadrants; a rear face divided into 4 quadrants; upper and lower edges separated by a height; first and second side edges separated by a width; a central vertical fold line; and a central horizontal fold line. The next step is forming an image on each quadrant. The next step is creating a first fold along the vertical fold line and a second fold along the horizontal fold line. The next step is coupling the quadrants adjacent to the vertical fold line using a tape. The final step is cutting along the horizontal fold line to crop and remove the horizontal fold line creating a first signature having pages 1 through 8.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2012Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 6398474Abstract: A method of manufacturing a book block with a rounded or a rounded and pressed back includes adhering a first plurality of narrow retaining strips along outer leaves and back of the book block. Additional retaining strips may be applied transversely across the back of the book block in the region of the top and bottom of the back of the book block. Thereafter, the book block may be rounded or rounded and pressed. It is believed that application of the retaining strips prior to the rounding and pressing operations reduces the forces of resistance in the rounding and pressing operations.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2000Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Assignee: Kolbus GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6328338Abstract: A publication having a separation line indicated on at least one of the pages of the publication. The separation line has a first endpoint and a second endpoint. The first endpoint is located on or adjacent to a first edge of the page and a distance away from a second edge of the page; the first edge forms an angle with the second edge. The second endpoint is located a distance away from the first edge and a distance away from the second edge. The distance from the first endpoint to the second edge is greater than the distance from the second endpoint to the second edge. A page marker integral with the page is formed when the page is separated along the separation line. When the page marker is folded towards the second edge of the page, a portion of the page marker extends beyond the second edge. The page marker thus functions as a bookmark.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Inventors: Lawrence M. Sherman, Richard J. Birch, Brian S. Rosenbloom

Patent number: 6099189Abstract: An index divider sheet assembly adapted for feeding into ink jet printers and the like for a printing operation on the sheet body and/or the index tab of the assembly. The assembly includes a divider sheet having a tab extending out of one edge and a reinforced binding edge flap. The divider sheet can be manufactured from ink jet receptive top-coated white cardstock. A guide strip along the tab edge assists the assembly being fed and passing through the printer despite the presence of the tab. The binding edge flap is folded over onto the body of the sheet and held thereon to reduce the width dimension of the assembly so that it can be fed into and passed through the printer. After passing through the printer, the guide strip is removed and the flap is unfolded. To improve feed of the assembly from a printer feed tray having corner guides, the flap is manufactured to have notches cut out of both ends thereof to define thin legs along the flap fold line and at both corner ends of the flap.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1999Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Avery Dennison CorporationInventors: Sonia Owen, Galen C.
