Plurality Of Position Markers Patents (Class 283/37)
  • Patent number: 6145883
Abstract: A filing system based on an alpha numeric system in which the numeric portion is based upon birth dates and the alphabetic portion on the names of the individuals within the filing system. A label has color coded areas thereon corresponding to the birth date of an individual, and a color coded label designating the initial of the last name of the individual. A second label bears the individual name. The labels are placed upon a file folder which is then placed into a filing system broken into main sets and subsets. The main sets are arranged chronologically according to the date, while the subsets within each set are arranged alphabetically as a function of the individual's surname.

  • Patent number: 6099189
Abstract: An index divider sheet assembly adapted for feeding into ink jet printers and the like for a printing operation on the sheet body and/or the index tab of the assembly. The assembly includes a divider sheet having a tab extending out of one edge and a reinforced binding edge flap. The divider sheet can be manufactured from ink jet receptive top-coated white cardstock. A guide strip along the tab edge assists the assembly being fed and passing through the printer despite the presence of the tab. The binding edge flap is folded over onto the body of the sheet and held thereon to reduce the width dimension of the assembly so that it can be fed into and passed through the printer. After passing through the printer, the guide strip is removed and the flap is unfolded. To improve feed of the assembly from a printer feed tray having corner guides, the flap is manufactured to have notches cut out of both ends thereof to define thin legs along the flap fold line and at both corner ends of the flap.

  • Patent number: 6071030
Abstract: The tabbed edge of a divider sheet has at least one strip releasably attached thereto. The strip helps the printer (or copier) sense the sheet when being fed strip end first or last (landscape direction) into the printer or copier. When fed in the portrait direction, the strip guides the sheet along the feed tray guides thereby preventing skewing of the sheet. After the printer or copier has printed the desired indicia on the tabs and/or body of the sheet, the strip is removed from the sheet and discarded. The strip can be attached to the sheet with adhesive or by a microperforation line.

  • Patent number: 6032984
Abstract: A method for a color coded filing system uses color codes for the sequencing elements of a sequencing scheme to provide unique color codes for the file designations of individual files. The method omits the color code for the last sequencing element of the file designation such that, when multiple files are arranged in order, the color codes form horizontal rows of easily discernible color blocks where the color blocks span multiple files. The file folder used in conjunction with the method has a pocket for a removable color code carrying medium. The pocket includes a window on the outside edge of the file folder. The window is aligned with the color codes on the carrying medium to permit direct viewing of the color codes. A graspable portion of the carrying medium extends through the window to aid in insertion and removal of the carrying medium.

  • Patent number: 5996130
Abstract: Tab material which is wrapped tightly around an edge of a sheet is adhered flat to both faces of the sheet. The sheet is passed through a printer, and indicia is printed on both sides of a tab material fold line on at least a portion of the tab material on one of the faces. Then, the tab material portion is released from that face, folded onto itself on the fold line, and the end of that portion is re-adhered to that face but closer to the sheet edge. Thereby, the folded tab material portion extends out from the edge and has indicia printed on both sides thereof to define a tab. Pursuant to one embodiment, a series of these tab material portions line that face along the edge, separated from one another by die cut lines. The user can then select the portion to be released from the face, folded onto itself and its end attached to the face to define an outwardly extending tab at the desired place anywhere along the edge.

Abstract: A separator page is provided for a set of papers of uniform size and shape. The separator page preferably has the same rectangular size and shape as each of the papers in the set of papers. At an unbound edge the separator page has a plurality of parallel, uniformly space slots of uniform length. These slots are spaced a uniform distance from the selected unbound edge. An index tab has a labeling portion wider than the distance between the slots and the edge along which the slots are aligned. A pair of insertion ears extend in opposite directions from the labeling portion of each index tab. Each of the ears is of such a width as to fit snugly into the slots. The index tabs are thereby removably and selectively positionable at different locations along the mounting edge with the ears thereof inserted into alternatively selected slots. Abstract: Disclosed is a human and machine readable label which is divided into three areas. The top portion of the label, which is typically half the length of the label, is divided into two columns. One of these columns contains a bar code with a quiet zone at each end of the bar code. This bar code contains the entire message of the label in a machine readable bar code format. The other column of the top portion of the label contains the first few characters of the human readable portion of the message. The bottom portion of the label contains the remainder of the human readable message and is printed throughout the entire width of the label, thus allowing the characters to be a much larger size that the human readable characters contained in the top portion of the label. The label is of a size that allows it to be placed on one end of a 3480 style tape cartridge, as well as allowing it to be placed on other types of media such a file folders.

  • Patent number: 4978143
Abstract: An exemplary book indexing system according to the invention includes an index table (10 or 12) which has thereon a first series (23) comprising names in alphabetical order of book chapters or similar parts to be indexed, and a second series (24) comprising numbers in non-numerical order, one number of the second series being aligned with each word of the first series. A plurality of tabs (13) each bearing one of the numbers in the second series (24) may be attached to appropriate pages of a book (10) so that the chapters thereof may be quickly referenced. A tab layout strip (14) aids in placing tabs (13) manually on book (10.) The indexing system according to the invention is especially useful for books such as the bible which are frequently cited by the name of the biblical book in which a passage appears.

  • Patent number: 4813710
Abstract: An improved dictionary index that allows a person to open a dictionary often just a few pages from where his word is located. Given the word "ran," r, a, and n are #1, #2, and #3 letters respectively. This index allows a person to open to where the #2 letter begins, and if set up for it, in many cases to open to where the #3 letter begins, so that in this case the person is shown where to open the dictionary to have "ran" on that open page. This is accomplished partly by subdividing the words beginning with #1 letters into lesser categories--26 if each of the letters is to be presented as a #2 letter, and perhaps 40 or more if some #2 letters are further subdivided into #3 letters--for instance such #2 letters as A, E, I, O, U, H, L, N, R. A chart of these perhaps 40 letters is placed for instance on the inside back book cover where the cover extends past the pages.
