Flexible Lip Patents (Class 285/110)
  • Patent number: 3998478
Abstract: A sealing joint construction with gasket for joints especially in or with plastic pipes, such as electrical or telephone conduit pipes, drainage or sewer conduit pipes, either bell-and-plain-spigot type pipe or plain end pipe connected by a coupling fitting or pipe and other drainage fittings, characterized by use of a smooth non-grooved, non-ribbed spigot male and bell-like female joined element ends telescoped in bell-and-spigot fashion, the female end being double-belled to receive snugly the innermost spigot end and outwardly thereof to define an annular recess of narrow gap or width and of considerable axial depth, and, inserted in the recess, a limp, pliable, endless, i.e.

  • Patent number: 3992044
Abstract: A connector assembly for attachment to the end of a compressible plastic covered conduit having a spiralling groove on the inside thereof, the connector assembly including an air impervious cylindrical sleeve member enveloping the compressible plastic covering and terminating at its outer end in a continuous annular inwardly and axially outwardly extending resilient seal-forming lip. A coupling member is provided having a sleeve portion with an external threading which snugly interfits with the spiralling groove on the inside of said conduit, thereby to expand the conduit outwardly to compress said compressible plastic conduit covering up against the inner surface of said sleeve member to form a liquid and airtight seal thereat. The coupling member has a flange which is axially held in a liquid and airtight sealing relationship with the continuous annular lip of the sleeve member.

  • Patent number: 3990730
Abstract: A connecting fitting for pressure conduits including a pair of coupling elements with corresponding bores and one element having a female portion capable of receiving a male portion of the other element and said female portion having spaced apart recesses with seals positioned therein cooperating with exterior surfaces of said male portion to provide seals therebetween. One of said seals spacing said male and female parts in the assembled position thereof and having a recess providing a pair of lips with an orifices therebetween opening into said space between said parts for receiving a medium under pressure in said conduits, for spreading said lip into sealing engagement with said male and female parts.

  • Patent number: 3986730
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pipe fitting comprising a cylindrical body, a radially deformable locking piece, a seal and a compression ring which is maintained fast with the body, while being free to slide axially with respect thereto. The ring defines with the body an annular space in which the seal and the locking piece are maintained fixed so that the fitting forms a unit.

  • Patent number: 3955834
Abstract: A duct-connecting joint of tubular cylindrical form adapted to be telescopically engaged within the free end of a cylindrical duct having an L-shaped sealing element extending about its circumference with a base portion flush against the cylindrical wall of the connecting body and a radial flange portion biased to extend at an angle greater than 90.degree. to the base portion. The base portion is mounted within an inset zone of the connecting body so that the connecting body itself provides cylindrical guide portions on opposite sides of the sealing flange which may engage against the interior cylindrical surface of the duct to prevent destruction of the flange. Several methods are shown for fabricating the connecting body to insure that the flange is biased outward to rest at an angle of greater than 90.degree. with the base.

  • Patent number: 3955763
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for attachment to a spraying device, comprising a rotatable ball member having a spray orifice and passage, and a handle formed as an integral part, a housing for enclosing the ball member while allowing the handle portion to project external of the housing, a sealing member for fitting into the housing in sealing contact with the ball member, and a threadable attachment for securing the housing and ball and sealing members to a spraying device so that the ball member may be rotatably moved to place the spray orifice and passage in forward and in reverse contact with the spraying device.

  • Patent number: 3953058
Abstract: A tube coupling having an arcuate grip surface which engages with and secures tubing with minimum scarring and distortion of the tubing. The grip surface is rotatable to successively present arcs of smaller radius to the tube whereby the gripping engagement tends to occur over a long line of contact. One embodiment employs a right-circular cylindrical cavity only slightly larger than the tube to be coupled for reception of the tube and a rotatable locking element mounted normal to the cavity and intersecting with the cavity to present a gripping surface to the cavity which upon rotation in a biased direction presents a groove defining in the cross-section of the cavity a succession of arcs of progressively smaller radius to the cavity and a tube therein until an arc conforms to and grippingly engages the tube as it bears against an opposing cavity wall. Various seal structures of elastomeric material are accommodated within the coupling body.

  • Patent number: 3948315
Abstract: A closure for a heat exchanger of the shell and tube type in which fluid under high pressure is circulated through one or more tubes mounted in the shell. The pressure of the fluid flowing through the shell is lower than the pressure of the fluid in the tubes. The closure includes a single seal member for sealing between the tube sheet and the shell terminal member and between the tube sheet and the closure member and between the terminal member and the closure member. The tubes are bent in a hairpin shape with a separate closure at each end of the tubes. An opening in the end of the shell allows the tube and tube sheet to be inserted into and removed from the interior of the shell.

  • Patent number: 3948546
Abstract: A coupling member for building into the end portion of a hose. The coupling member includes a portion which extends into the bore of the hose body and has one or more annular protuberances extending around the exterior surface. At least one notch extending into one of the protuberances provides a seal to prevent the flow of the fluid passing through the hose from leaking between the outer surface of the coupling member and the hose bore.
