Spreading Parts Apart Or Separating Them From Face To Face Engagement Patents (Class 29/239)
  • Patent number: 5555481
Abstract: A method of producing parts from two distinct classes of materials utilizes depositing a first class material and a second class material on a deposition surface where the first class material forms a three-dimensional shape defined by the interface of the first class material and the second class material. The first class material is unified and the second class material is removed therefrom to form a three-dimensional part of the first class material. Preferably, the first and second class materials are deposited in layers.

  • Patent number: 5473816
Abstract: Male and female portions of a multi-pin connector (MPC) are separated and connected using a tool or a method in which the two MPC portions are securely retained in lateral and longitudinal alignment throughout separation and connection, to alleviate the difficulties of breaking, bending, mis-aligning and twisting pins of the male MPC portion relative to sockets of the female MPC portion, which may easily occur during separation and connection. The pins and the sockets in lateral and longitudinal alignment while the MPC portions are moved toward and away from one another. The risk of lead-wire breakage due to fatigue from grasping the lead wires during connection and separation is also avoided, because the only contact is with the body portions, not the lead wires, of even small MPCs. At one end of a support table there are several power operated arms which move up and pry the end slat off the pallet. • Patent number: 5449068
Abstract: Apparatus for safely and conveniently removing a blade from a surgical scalpel, and for disposing of used blades. The preferred embodiment includes an aperture through which the blade may be inserted into a container. The aperture is defined by parallel guide walls. A first and second shoulder project from one guide wall, and a third shoulder projects from the other guide wall. An angled blade deflector is disposed in the interior of the container, behind the aperture. Insertion of the scalpel blade into the aperture and against the angled blade deflector pushes the blade against the first and second shoulders, which causes the blade to deform and separate slightly from the handle and to engage the third shoulder. This third shoulder holds the rear of the blade within the aperture, so that manual withdrawal of the handle from the aperture detaches the blade from the handle, leaving the detached blade within the container for easy disposal.

Abstract: An aspect of the invention is an improved method for servicing a gear assembly having a gear segment and a spider for supporting the segment. The method includes the steps of providing a jack assembly with a jacking bolt mounted for radial outward movement, moving the jacking bolt radially outward, applying a separating force to the segment and disengaging the segment from the spider. Further steps involve providing a drawtight assembly with a coupler attached to the segment, applying a force to the coupler, moving the coupler radially inward and engaging the segment with the spider. Other aspects of the invention include the "jacking" apparatus for separating a segment from the spider (for service purposes) and the "drawtight" apparatus for re-attaching the segment to the spider. • Patent number: 5129136
Abstract: A flange spreading implement includes a set of pins freely slide into the bolt holes of the flanges to be spread apart. The pins are of a size selected to bind in the flange bolt holes upon the application of a moment to the pins. Arms are connected to the pins and extend beyond the periphery of the flanges to be spread. A force applier, such as a hydraulic motor or screw, is used to apply a force to the arms in a direction generally parallel to the axis of the flanges. This imparts a moment to the pins, causing them to bind in the bolt holes and thereby grip the flanges. The force applier applies sufficient force to spread the flanges apart to allow a valve, meter, flow treater, gasket, orifice plate or the like, to be removed from between the flanges.

Abstract: This invention is a adjustable forked wedge separator. The invention basically consist of a handle that is integrally attached to the narrow edge of a truckcated triangular shaped body member. On the wide edge of the trunkcated triangular shaped body member are the wedge members. These members are flat on the bottom and of the same thickness as the body member at the bottom and taper to a point at the top end. In one embodiment of this invention one of these wedges is integral attached to the body member and the other wedge is adjustable. In this embodiment of the invention the means for adjusting the one wedge is a rack on the bottom of the adjustable wedge member and a helix shaped gear around the outside of the cylinder in an opening in the body member. The rack and the helix shaped gear engaged such that when the cylinder is turned the wedge moves. In another embodiment one or both wedges can be adjustable. In this embodiment the body member has slots on each side of the handle.

  • Patent number: 5088173
Abstract: A remover-receptacle device bends a scalpel blade having a central longitudinal aperture presenting detents from its mounted position on the tang of a scalpel blade handle so as to remove the blade from the handle. In the removal the distal, balde-end region of the scalpel blade is held completely planar from a position proximal of the detents while only the scalpel blade's proximal, shank-end region is bent. The scalpel handle's tang may thusly be slid from the scalpel blade's aperture with essentially zero removal force. The act of removing the scalpel blade locks the scalpel blade remover-receptacle shut with exactly one scalpel blade, visible through a viewing aperture, present therein. Both the one-time-use scalpel blade remover-receptacle and the single removed scalpel blade encapsulated therein may be safety transported and disposed.

  • Patent number: 5036571
Abstract: An improved carrier tape is disclosed comprising an elongated base strip and an elongated cover strip both formed of a plastic film material. The base strip is provided with longitudinally spaced cavities for components to be transported therein as well as a series of spaced, longitudinally extending sprocket drive holes for advancing the tape. The cover strip has a raised hump on its top surface positioned so as to align with the sprocket holes when the tape is assembled. The hump defines a living hinge for the adjacent surfaces of the cover strip top face. Accordingly, when the hump is depressed the sidewalls of the cover strip move outwardly so as to clear the edges of the base strip. Conversely, when the hump is released, the sidewalls return to their relaxed position. A device for applying the cover strip to the base strip applies pressure to the hump of the cover strip while guiding the sidewalls of the cover strip around the top edge of the base strip.
