Abstract: A tool for removing a mixing valve cartridge from a housing located in a faucet or shower. The tool is comprised of a core puller and a sleeve puller which share a T-handle. The cartridge is removed by first pulling the core from the cartridge sleeve and then pulling the sleeve from the housing. The core is pulled using the core puller consisting of a cylindrical body open at its inner end and having a left-hand threaded hole at its outer end through which a left-hand screw is threadably attached. The left-hand screw has a right-hand screw at its inner end for threading to the core and a transverse hole at its outer end for attaching the T-handle. The right-hand screw is attached to the core, the open end of the cylindrical body is placed against the housing and the T-handle is attached to the outer end of the left-hand screw. The T-handle is turned clockwise pulling the core out of the sleeve and into the cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 7065855
Abstract: The invention provides an installation tool for use with a battery operated drill or a corded electric drill for repetitive installation of caulk-in anchors. The installation tool utilizes the mechanical advantage of a threaded shaft to improve consistency of the holding reliability of the caulk-in anchor and controls the anchor setting process to insure proper installation while reducing installation time. The installation tool does not rely on bottom setting or a hammer strike to set the anchor, but can be set at a depth independent of hole depth. In one embodiment, the tool can be used with a through hole in the substrate and uses a combination of a threaded shaft and a controlled sensing spring to insure a more uniform installation of the anchor within the substrate across the entire length of the sleeve portion of the anchor, along with a visual check of proper setting of the anchor.

  • Patent number: 6393682
Abstract: A spring loaded mud flap tool (10) includes a hook element (20) carried by one a first of a drive rod (30). The hook end of the hook element is sized to grasp the end of the spring carried within the hanger tube of the mud flap assembly. A handle assembly (80) is carried by a second end of the drive rod. The handle assembly allows the user to manipulate the hook until it successfully grasps the spring. A bearing assembly (40) is carried on the threaded surface of the drive rod (30), and supports a pair of diametrically opposed crank handles (70). In operation, the bearing assembly rests on the open end of the hanger tube. Revolution of the crank handles turns the drive rod, which retracts the hook element and therefore retracts the spring. The force of the spring pulling the tool (10) into the hanger tube is offset by an equal force exerted by the bearing assembly on the rim of the hanger tube. A safety chain (90) connects the hanger tube and the bearing assembly.

  • Patent number: 6327769
Abstract: A tool for brake spring maintenance provides the ability both to release brake springs and then hold them out of the way for removal and replacement of brake shoes or for other maintenance operations related to drum brake arrangements. A main support bar is adapted to be received on an exposed wheel mounting member. The bar has a pair of threaded pins and cooperating threaded nuts for controlled axial movement of the pins. The pins have hooked ends and are situated for engaging respective brake springs whenever the tool is properly positioned on the exposed wheel mounting member. By rotating the threaded nuts to move the pins a set axial distance with the pin hooked ends engaged with the brake springs, such springs can be drawn back from their hold on the brake shoes, to permit disassembly and maintenance of the entire drum brake arrangement.

  • Patent number: 6314632
Abstract: A steering wheel puller which is both easy to assemble and safe to use is disclosed. The puller is effective for removing the steering wheels from vehicles such as golf carts and utility vehicles. An actuator portion of the puller is placed through the top of the wheel to positively engage a base plate at the bottom of the wheel. The actuator portion has a screw which engages the steering column shaft of the vehicle at the center of the steering wheel. As this screw is tightened, the downward force on the steering column and the upward force of the base plate on the steering wheel causes the steering wheel to dislodge.

  • Patent number: 6298534
Abstract: The present invention generally provides an apparatus and a method for separating components of a processing system which are mounted to one another and may adhere after being subjected to processing conditions. In one aspect, the invention provides a removal screw that can be threaded into a removal hole on a first component and an abutment screw that can be threaded into an attachment hole on a second component. To separate the first component from the second component, the abutment screw is first threaded into the attachment hole on the second or stationary component, and then the removal screw is threaded into the removal hole on the first component. An important aspect of this invention is that the removal screw does not contact, and damage, the contact surface between the first and second components to separate the components.
