Dividing Through Modified Portion Patents (Class 29/414)
  • Patent number: 4535517
Abstract: A connecting rod for a radial piston motor including a spherical surface portion, a rod portion and a pad portion having a sliding surface. The spherical surface portion, rod portion and pad portion are formed integrally, and the sliding surface has a bearing alloy attached to its surface by centrifugal casting. An overlay may be provided on the bearing alloy. The connecting rod is produced in a mass production basis by a method including the steps of integrally forming a star-shape cylindrical monolithic blank (18) having a single cylindrical centrally located axial opening and bearing six equally spaced outwardly radiating rod portions (2), each rod portion bearing an integral, substantially spherical surface portion (1) on its distal end; attaching a bearing alloy by centrifugal casting, to the centrally located axial opening in said blank (18); machining the surface of the bearing alloy; and dividing the blank into six pieces constituting six connecting rods.

  • Patent number: 4528837
Abstract: A pliers-type tool for setting pull-type blind fasteners of a kind requiring the stem of the fastener to be severed after it has been pulled to set the fastener. A pair of blades mounted on pivotal holders arranged to be rocked by an actuating member of the tool after the stem has been pulled is provided. The actuating member is slideably mounted on the pull bar and a tooth of a latch engages both parts during an initial part of the setting stroke. When the fastener has been set the latch becomes disengaged from the pull bar while continuing to retract the actuating member. Such disengagement is controlled by a cam which is adjustable on the housing of the tool to vary the length of stroke of the pull bar in accordance with the thickness of workpiece in which the fastener is being set.

  • Patent number: 4524815
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the manufacture of sewing machine needles from a cylindrical length of wire by form pressing a length of wire having a diameter which corresponds to the thickness of the needle butt, the wire is reduced to approximately the final cross sectional dimension over at least the length of the needle shank and the shoulder. The thread grooves are pressed in from the curved outer surfaces of the length of wire within the region of the needle shank. The reduction in cross section is effected by pressing opposite cross sections of wire material to form laterally protruding flat burrs. In between the flat burrs are transverse convex curved outer surfaces which lie within the final diameter. This intermediate form of the needle closely resembles its complete final shape. Several needle blanks, in particular two needle blanks, are attached together in the region of their points for simultaneous form pressing.

  • Patent number: 4505032
Abstract: An apparatus relating to a voltage divider having one or more Kelvin connection taps, including first and second spaced terminals and a current carrying resistor between the first and second terminals. A third terminal is spaced from the resistor and the resistor has at least one conductive but non-current-carrying peninsula extending from a junction on the side of the resistor and connecting with the third terminal to produce a Kelvin connection tap. A cut is made only in the non-current-carrying peninsula along the path having a component parallel to the side of the resistor from which the peninsula extends and shading the junction of said peninsula and the side from the third terminal, to adjust the interconnection of the third terminal with the resistor and vary the voltage output without varying the resistance of the resistor. An extension of this cut may be made parallel to the edge of the peninsula to further increase the adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4434416
Abstract: A rectangular wafer thermistor comprises a piece of ceramic thermistor material having electric contact material covering its opposite surfaces. A contact defining score mark with an open geometric shape other than a straight line extends across the thermistor through one layer of the contact material for separating the contact material on that surface into two contacts. The ends of the contact defining score mark intersect the opposite edges of the thermistor at different locations along the thermistor. The contact defining score marks may be V or U or otherwise shaped, and the intersections between the different sections of these score marks are preferably rounded, but may be sharp corners. The shape of the contact defining score mark prevents the thermistor from breaking at the contact defining score mark when the thermistor is broken off a large sheet of thermistor material.

  • Patent number: 4393564
Abstract: A shell and tube type heat exchanger having a tube bundle supported at opposite ends in tube sheets is capable of being repaired quickly by closing off opposite ends of a damaged tube using the method and apparatus disclosed. The apparatus comprises a two-part tapered plug assembly which is adapted to be installed in the tube in alignment with the tube sheet and expanded radially outward into tight engagement with the interior of a tube by pulling an inner wedge portion of the plug assembly axially relative to an outer ring portion. The pulling is effected by an hydraulic ram which is connected by a breakaway unit to a pull rod which slides axially relative to a compression tube both of which are received axially within the defective tube. The hydraulic ram pulls the rod relative to the compression tube and thereby draws the wedge inside the ring until the breakaway connection releases the pull rod and enables the pull rod, compression tube and auxiliary parts to be withdrawn from the defective tube.

Abstract: An arrangement for fabricating planar elements which may be stacked for producing predetermined surfaces and bodies. The planar elements have cross-sections corresponding to respective cross-sections of the surface to be constructed. Registration holes are punched about the planar element, so that these may be readily stacked relative to each other, as required to form the surface to be constructed.
