  • Patent number: 5187867
Abstract: A method of making a thermal barrier component includes the steps of fabricating a first heat-conductive part having spaced transverse first and second projections, fabricating a second heat-conductive part having a transverse flange, moving the heat conductive parts toward each other so that the flange moves into the region between the projections, so that retaining portions on the flange end projections move into engagement and yieldably resist movement of the heat-conductive parts away from each other, and so that outer ends of the projections firmly engage respective surface portions on the second heat-conductive part, thereafter applying to the heat-conductive parts a thermal barrier material which extends between and is fixedly coupled to the heat-conductive parts, and thereafter machining away a central portion of each of the projections.

  • Patent number: 5065501
Abstract: A self-regulating heater includes an electrically-conductive substrate (11), having a magnetic surface layer (13) of one skin depth, folded 180 degrees to define two heater sections joined by a fold section. The magnetic material has a considerably higher resistance than the substrate material. The surface of the two sections clad with the surface layer are in closely spaced parallel relation and connected in series by the fold section (23) such that a constant amplitude alternating energizing current flows in opposite directions through the two sections at any instant of time to thereby establish an electric field between the two heaters. The field concentrates current flow at the two facing surfaces. Depth of the current is determined by the skin effect phenomenon and increases significantly at temperatures above the Curie temperature of the magnetic material.

Abstract: A method of producing concentric knockouts on a planar portion of sheet metal to be formed into an equipment housing. The sheet metal is successively positioned with respect to punch sets of increasing diameter and knockout portions of increasing size are sequentially cut, but for retaining anchors, to surround previously cut portions. Successive knockout portions are cut by punches moving in opposing directions. The punch sets comprise a cutting punch and an embedding punch. The cutting punch cuts and displaces the knockout in a first direction and the embedding punch of the same punch set moves in an opposite direction to at least partially restore the cut and displaced portion within the surrounding portions of the sheet metal.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a piston of an internal combustion engine, especially for forming a piston gallery portion provided in the piston head for cooling the engine. A gallery member made of a metal pipe having a high thermal conductivity or a salt-core having a shape corresponding to the piston gallery is fixed to a fixing member having a peripheral rim and a plurality of fixing legs extended from the rim. The gallery member or the salt-core fixed to the fixing member is cast in the piston, body, and then, the fixing member is cut off from the piston body. The salt-core is melted away by pouring water. By this method, a piston of light weight and having high cooling efficiency can be manufactured.

Abstract: A cylinder block of a rotary slide vane compressor, having an eccentric inner surface with split inner sleeve members embedded therein and in slidable contact with the vanes. The method for making the cylinder block comprises the steps of preparing an inner sleeve original form of a ferrous material and having a circumferentially closed integral portion. This original form is embedded in the inner surface of the cylinder of aluminum alloy during the step of casting the cylinder block, and thereafter, the cast cylinder block is machined together with the original form to cut away the circumferentially closed integral portion and thereby separate the original form into a plurality of split inner sleeve members.

Abstract: A method coil bobbin (1) with a first flange (3) and a second flange (5) between which a winding space is formed in which a first coil (9) is wound. Around the first coil and electrically insulated foil (13) is fitted, on which one or more second coils (15, 17) are wound. An essentially U-shaped spacer (23) made of an electrically insulating material is placed, before the winding of the second coil (15, 17), around the insulating foil (13) such that its members (27) extend axially into the winding space. Each of the members (27) is provided near the first flange (3) with a first radial projection (29) and near the second flange (5) with a second radial projection (31). These projections define a minimum possible distance between the second coil (15, 17) and the first and second flanges. Each member (27) of the spacer is perferably also provided with at least a third radial projection (33) which separates two successive second coils (15 and 17) from each other in the axial direction.

Abstract: An armature group for mosaic printing head has a plurality of armatures wherein each armature which is part of an actuation electromagnet associated with one of a plurality of printing needles, is fixed to an elastic arm of a spring steel spider having as many arms as there are armatures. The spider, besides performing an armature positioning function allows the armature group to be handled as a unitary element which is easy to assemble. The thrust arm of each armature further has a double bend so that the plane between such arm and the corresponding needle head is perpendicular to the axis of the needle and passes through the fulcrum of the armature. This minimizes the buckling force which the needle has to undergo during the actuation phase. The construction of the armature group can be accomplished by a completely automated manufacturing process.
