  • Patent number: 4861462
Abstract: A screen unit for a screening machine comprises a screen layer which is bonded to a screen frame spanning an opening thereof. The screen layer is uniformly heated before such bonding is effected so that cooling after bonding generates a tension in the screen layer to allow it to have a trampoline or drumhead vibratile action. The tension is maintained by a reinforcing frame embedded in the frame body.

  • Patent number: 4856171
Abstract: A method of applying a fabric material, such as a screening fabric or fiber glass cloth in a retention groove of a rectangular frame by applying a spline cord in the groove with a fabric portion disposed therein. The method comprises storing data pertaining to the dimension of a rectangular frame, in an electronic control device. A frame support structure is automatically positioned to a frame receiving position where the frame is placed thereon. At least two frame engaging members of the frame support structure are moved to position the side members of the frame in a desired configuration. The side members are gripped to maintain them along respective straight transverse axis. A predetermined length of fabric material is then positioned to the frame to overly the retention groove of the side members.

  • Patent number: 4608740
Abstract: A layer of padding is centered on a sheet of upholstery material. A rail is centered top down on the layer, and this feed assembly is moved continuously along a feed path by driven rotating rollers contacting the rail. The rail is forced by the roller toward a smooth slide face, which presses the sheet and layer against the rail top. The sheet slides along the smooth slide face. Smooth faced fences have inclined edges that progressively fold, pull taut, and then press the sheet toward the rail, compressing the layer. Guides with smooth faces and inclined edges fold the remaining sheet against the rail. The edges of the sheet are stapled or glued to the rail, producing a cap or padded rail with a taut, uniform upholstery covering. The staples or glue is inserted when the feed assembly has moved a desired distance along the feed path.

  • Patent number: 4594761
Abstract: A hollow composite airfoil with an integral internal support rib of fluoroelastomer rubber is formed by bracketing the rib between two silicone rubber mandrels to form a core assembly having a desired aerodynamic shape, then building up on opposite sides of the core assembly separate stacks of laminae of a composite material of graphite (or carbon) and glass fibers impregnated with an epoxy resin, with the two stacks overlapping adjacent to the leading and trailing edges of the core assembly. Heat and pressure are then applied to the core assembly with the laminae thereon to bond together the laminae of each stack, then to bond the two stacks together along the overlapping portions thereof and to bond the two stacks to the rib to form a continuous shell around the core assembly. The mandrels are then removed. One open end of the resulting hollow airfoil is plugged and that end is inserted into a recess in a mounting platform with a predetermined clearance space therebetween.

Abstract: A method for constructing furniture is used to attach a flexible sheet portion in a state of tension to a support structure. The support structure includes first and second spaced-apart longitudinal bars having a plurality of studs and a plurality of cross braces, each cross brace having stud engaging apertures proximate first and second ends. Initially, the bars are attached to the flexible sheet with the studs projecting through the sheet. A first cross brace is attached to a first bar by inserting a first stud of the first bar through an aperture of the cross brace. A tool having a handle portion, a shank portion and a distal end portion with a stud engaging recess is inserted through a second aperture of the first cross brace. A second stud of the second bar is engaged by the recess of the distal end portion and the tool is tilted away from the center of the sheet, placing the sheet in tension, while the cross brace is slid down the shank of the tool against the sheet and the second bar.
