  • Patent number: 10921781
Abstract: Algorithmic reasoning about a cutting tool assembly's space of feasible configurations can be effectively harnessed to construct a sequence of motions that guarantees a collision-free path for the tool assembly to remove each support structure in the sequence. A greedy algorithm models the motion of the cutting tool assembly through the free-spaces around the intermediate shapes of the part as the free-spaces iteratively reduce in size to the near-net shape to determine feasible points of contact for the cutting tool assembly. Each support beam is evaluated for a contact feature along the boundary of the near-net shape that constitutes a feasible point of contact. If a support beam has at least one feasible configuration at each point, the support beam is deemed ‘accessible’ and a collection of tool assembly configurations that are guaranteed to be non-colliding but which can access all points of contact of each accessible support beam can be generated.

  • Patent number: 10434555
Abstract: Systems and methods for using metrology to assist a user at a workstation to form a part into a desired contour include scanning the part to obtain scanned data indicative of an actual contour of the part. Distance errors are determined based on a comparison of the scanned data to a computer model of the desired contour. A contour map of deviation is determined based on the distance errors, with the contour map of deviation indicating magnitudes of the distance errors for at least a selected set of points on the actual contour of the part. Visible indicium is projected onto the part that represents the contour map of deviation, thereby assisting the user of the workstation to identify where further modification of the actual contour is needed.

Abstract: Digital flexural materials are discrete parts that can be assembled into a lattice structure to produce functionally useful assemblies. An automated process for constructing a structure from digital flexural materials includes assembling a set of discrete units into the structure by reversibly connecting a majority of the set of discrete units to each other, each of the units being reversibly connected or connectable to at least two other units in the set according to a lattice geometry, and then assembling the reversibly connected discrete units into the structure according to the lattice geometry, wherein the structure has the property that a reversible deformation of at least part of the structure occurs in response to loading of the structure. The units in the set of discrete units may be of at least two types or may together comprise a stretch-bend coupled material when assembled according to the lattice geometry.

  • Patent number: 10386521
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for transferring a subsea payload (such as seismic nodes) at a subsea position by using an elevator system located on a subsea basket. A plurality of seismic nodes may be located on a plurality of support slides, trays, or other node holders at different levels within the basket. The elevator system is configured to move the seismic nodes between different heights within the basket for external transfer from one or more vertical positions. During transfer operations between a subsea basket and an underwater vehicle (e.g., ROV), the desired level of seismic nodes may be positioned to the desired vertical position within the basket and transferred to the ROV by various transfer mechanisms, such as an extendable stinger or chain drive. Multiple levels of seismic nodes (or node holders) may be transferred between the basket and ROV during a single subsea docking.
