Abstract: A method of remodeling a subsisting countertop by casting a polymer-modified cementitious casting compound thereupon has some of the following steps. Given a subsisting countertop, without altering it, temporarily attaching edging forms or flow checks around all the free edges of the subsisting countertop, both of which forms and flow checks operate to check the flow of the casting compound at least to the height of a given rise. Following that, pouring a polymer-modified cementitious casting compound over the countertop to the height of the given rise and as checked within the edging forms and flow checks. The final step involves optionally removing the forms before the lapse of a full day.

Abstract: In a fuel injection valve, an adjustment pipe made of stainless steel and for adjusting a compression amount of a spring biasing a valve member is press-fitted into a cylindrical housing made of stainless steel, and a fuel injection amount is adjusted by adjusting a spring force of the spring in accordance with a press-fitted amount of the adjustment pipe. The adjustment pipe is immersed in an oxalic acid solution so that an oxalate film is formed thereon before being press-fitted into the cylindrical housing. Therefore, the oxalate film prevents a direct press-contact between an outer peripheral surface of the adjustment pipe and an inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical housing.

  • Patent number: 6832429
Abstract: A method for creating a hot melt foamed form for an air induction system. A block of thermal mastic elastomer is melted and blended with nitrogen gas to create a foamed material. The foamed material is applied by robotic techniques over a base material on the surface of a polypropylene glass lower shell. After the foamed material cures, a polypropylene glass cover is applied over the foamed material form to create an air tight dust/water seal. The cover does not adhere to the cured foamed material and is removable when service is necessary. The foam material can also be dispensed into a mold and then transferred to the base, allowing for changes in the shape and profile of the foamed material. This method can also be employed to create an isolation pad on an air induction system to absorb engine shock. The thermal mastic elastomer can also be employed to create a seal between the cover neck of an air induction assembly and a mass air flow sensor.

The joint line can have an axial directional component and/or a radial directional component. The blank is formed into a U-shaped structure with two substantially parallel arms and the arms can be overbent toward each other by a distance that varies along the axial length of the U-shaped member. The U-shaped member can be subjected to a press forming operation to form a substantially tubular member. The substantially tubular member can have a non-circular cross-sectional shape. A step can be formed at the joint line as a result of different thickness sub-blanks. The step is placed in a press forming die facing outwardly so that the step is reduced during the press forming operation.

Abstract: A method of making a gasket of a variety which includes a generally annular retainer member having an inner and outer diametric extent which define a perimeter of a closed geometric shape, and at least one generally annular seal member formed of an elastomeric material and supported on the retainer member to be compressible intermediate a pair of interface surfaces for providing a fluid-tight seal therebetween. At least a first and a second retainer segment each is provided as extending intermediate a first end and a second end, and as having an inner periphery and an outer periphery. To form the retainer member, the first end of each of the retainer segments is connected to the second end of an adjacent segment such that the inner periphery of each segment defines a portion of the inner diametric extent of the retainer member, with the outer periphery of each segment defining a portion of the outer diametric extent of the retainer member.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for lining a high pressure pipe with a tube made from interlocking, high-tensile high performance fibers, with a plastic coating applied thereto, whereby the high performance fibers are arranged in an interwoven structure and introduced into the pipe in a state of mobility relative to each other. The introduced meshing is then pressed against the inner wall of the pipe by altering the geometrical arrangement of the high performance fibers with relation to each other and then fixed by the mutual arrangement of the high performance fibers adopted after the laying thereof.

  • Patent number: 6513239
Abstract: An alloy film is fabricated, on the face of a heat exchanger for an integrated circuit, by a process that dispenses various liquids onto the heat exchanger's face. To prevent those liquids from falling off of the heat exchanger's face onto other components which hold the heat exchanger on a frame, the process begins by combining the heat exchanger into an assembly that includes a retainer and a compliant member. The retainer catches any liquids that fall off the heat exchanger's face, and the compliant member forms a seal between the heat exchanger and the retainer which prevents the liquids from leaking onto the other components.

  • Patent number: 6505392
Abstract: A flexible source wire is provided containing a radioactive source that is capable of maneuvering through a tortuous narrow passage to a treatment site within the body. This source wire includes a thin flexible housing tube, housing therein a flexible backbone wire, wherein both the tube and the wire are constructed from a material exhibiting little or no memory retention when bent. A radioactive core is provided in the proximal end (i.e., the treatment end) of the thin flexible housing tube and abuts the proximal end of the backbone wire. Both ends of the source wire are sealed and the proximal end of the source wire is rounded to allow ease of movement as it travels through the bends and turns in the body.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a body, preferrably an automotive vehicle body, to have a plurality of coating layers, starts with assembling the body out of parts made from pre-coated metal. A pretreatment step provides for paint adhesion and/or corrosion protection for cut edges, weld spots or metal finished areas. A powder paint base coat is then applied onto the pre-coated metal of the vehicle body. The pre-coat layer is one of the plurality of coating layers and the powder paint base coat is another one of the plurality of coating layers. In another embodiment, the powder paint base coat is applied in two steps, a first powder paint base coat and a color powder paint base coat. The first powder paint base coat is applied to a first portion of the vehicle body and the color powder paint base coat is applied to a second portion of the vehicle body.

Abstract: A coating method according to the present invention includes a step of producing plural exterior members which constitute the outside portion of a vehicle body, and a step of forming and joining plural inside members which constitute the inside portion of the vehicle body, thereby producing a chassis. Each of the exterior members is a precoat metal sheet in which a rust-preventing layer and a coat which contains a lubricating component are formed on a surface of a metal sheet. Accordingly, the exterior members joined to the chassis need only intermediate coating and overcoating. The chassis constituent members are made of a precoat metal sheet in which a rust-preventing layer which contains a lubricating component is formed on a surface of a metal sheet. Accordingly, it is not necessary to carry out electrodeposition coating which is considered to be necessary for the chassis.

  • Patent number: 6470558
Abstract: A method of facing a substrate comprises the steps of first welding a body of a hard facing material to the substrate and then filling a space around the body with a molten metal. The method can be used in the hard facing of metal components with, for example, hard facing materials such as tungsten carbide. The substrate can comprise a metal surface, which can, for example, be the surface of any suitable component, tool, or implement subject to wear in use. The method is particularly suitable for hard facing the wear surfaces of components for use in drill strings in down-hole drilling technology, for example, drill stabilizers.

  • Patent number: 6460239
Abstract: A novel insert assembly for use in snowboards and other sporting equipment provides for embedded insert location, regardless of the properties of the insert material per se, and without requiring either expensive equipment or a complex location process. This is achieved by positioning a small inexpensive magnet on or within the insert cavity, or placing a plug-like magnet in the open threaded end of the inserts. After the board assembly is complete, a magnetic material such as iron powder is dusted on the surface of the board to react with the field lines created about each insert, revealing the insert location. Then, the board can be drilled to pierce the insert cap, and facilitate removal of any plug in the insert. It is also possible to provide, through powdered metal technology, an insert material which itself will produce the desired magnetic field of sufficient intensity at the dusted surface of the board.
