Registering Mating Opposed Tool Parts (e.g., Registering A Punch And A Cooperating Die) Patents (Class 29/465)
  • Patent number: 5989088
Abstract: The present invention provides a manufacturing method of a flat-panel display unit and a carrier therefor which make it unnecessary to implement alignment in each step, except for alignment which require higher precision, by performing the alignment in advance in the pre-stage of a series of steps. The present invention also provides a manufacturing method of a flat-panel display unit which allows alignment with accuracy of about 50 to 100 .mu.m to be performed simply, reliably and quickly. According to the inventive manufacturing method, a display panel is mounted non-shiftably on the carrier and while being mounted thereon, is then carried between processing machines and is processed by the processing machines. In mounting the display panel on the carrier, it is aligned with the carrier in advance by visually aligning alignment marks thereof.

  • Patent number: 5898997
Abstract: A wheel bearing spindle is produced by an improved method which provides adequate structural clearance from the sharp edge of a wheel drum hub, while actually improving the effective yield strength of the spindle. The spindle is produced from a near net shape steel forging which has a cylindrical spindle and flat wheel flange radiating therefrom. The circular hub of a brake drum fits radially closely over the pilot, and abuts with the wheel flange. Therefore, the juncture of the pilot and flange needs to be relieved or cut away somehow, both radially and axially, in order to assure non interference with the circular edge of the hub, which could prevent the rest of the hub from intimately abutting the surface of the wheel flange. The radial component of the clearance is provided by conventionally machining a channel radially into the pilot. This can be done, since it does not weaken the flange.

  • Patent number: 5878473
Abstract: A method for providing an article of manufacture is described such that the article has a bracket with a pair of parallel, spaced-apart arms affixed thereto, with a hole in each of the arms, the holes being aligned with each other and precisely spatially positioned relative to a fixed reference point on the article of manufacture which is external to the bracket in which the holes are made. In this manner, the cumulative imprecisions inherent in welding the bracket to the article and punching the holes in the bracket are not necessarily additive and a more precise spatial orientation of the holes with the reference point may be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5620634
Abstract: The specification describes a fiber lightguide connector for interconnecting large arrays of lightwave fibers. Linear arrays of lightwave fibers, for example those in so-called ribbon cables, are effectively interconnected using known v-groove connector assemblies. According to the invention two or more such v-groove connector assemblies are stacked to increase the fiber capacity of a connector assembly. Attempts to stack known v-groove connector plates have encountered problems with aligning the v-groove arrays on opposite sides of the internal or intermediate plate of the stack. An alignment technique is described for assuring precise alignment between linear arrays of v-grooves on opposite sides of the interior plates of stacked linear array connectors.

Abstract: The present invention provides an automated method for forming indented embossed edges around along the periphery of a light aperture for mounting a panel light's pane and frame assembly therein. A panel blank made of sheet metal is mounted on the table of an automated CNC punch press. Next the light aperture is scored in the blank using the punch press to punch out elongated slots between widely spaced apart bridge tabs forming an aperture blank within and connected to the panel blank by the spaced apart bridge tabs. Next the indented embossed edges are formed with two cooperating punch and die sets. A first right angled die set is used to form the four corners. A second straight bar die set is used with an automated nibbling function of the CNC punch press machine to form the linear extending sides of the indented embossed edge. The cooperating punch and die sets are designed to form an edge and not punch through a hole in the blank.
