Patent number: 8950054Abstract: A manufacturing method employing a robotic assembly system includes first and second fastener system components that are positioned by a robotic assembly on opposite sides of at least two structural pieces that are to be fastened together. The first system component includes a particular tool of a plurality of different types of tools, where the particular tool installs a particular fastener of a plurality of different types of fasteners. Each tool includes a block or base of magnetic material with a passageway opening for the fastener associated with the tool passing through the base. The robotic assembly positions the tool against one side of the structural pieces to be fastened, and positions an electromagnet assembly on the opposite side of the structural pieces. Activating the electromagnet assembly clamps the structural pieces together. With the fastener positioned in a hole through the structural pieces, the tool is activated to install the fastener between the structural pieces.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Branko Sarh, Harinder S. Patent number: 8943670Abstract: A method of securing a composite plastic part to an engine with a bolt or a bolt and washer. The bolt has a head including teeth that are adapted to engage either the part or the washer. The bolt is tightened to cause the teeth to compress the surface of the part to resist rotation that may become loosened as a result of vibration of the engine. The part may be an intake manifold, a cam cover or an oil pan. Locking features, such as teeth, may be provided on the clamping surface of the bolt and on both surfaces of the washer. Alternatively, a knurled or serrated surface may be provided instead of the teeth.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2012Date of Patent: February 3, 2015Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: John Carl Lohr, Christopher William Newman, Timothy J. Publication number: 20150026938Abstract: A casket comprises a casket shell including at least one keyhole groove in an exterior surface thereof, a casket lid closeable on the shell, the lid including a magnetic cap panel mounted therein, a universal ornament base having a front side and a rear side, the rear side including at least one magnet mounted thereon and at least one fastener secured thereto, the fastener having a head thereon, and an ornament insert secured to the front side of the ornament base. The ornament base and ornament insert can be removably secured to the shell by inserting the head of the fastener in the keyhole groove of the shell and seating the head of the fastener in the keyhole groove, or the ornament base and ornament insert can be removably secured to the lid by positioning the magnet on the magnetic cap panel, as desired.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2013Publication date: January 29, 2015Applicant: BATESVILLE SERVICES, INC.Inventor: Ilija Rojdev

Publication number: 20150028142Abstract: A nut (23) and a re-usable liner bolt (17) for a grinding mill is disclosed. The nut is shaped to be received in the recess (5) of a mill liner plate (3), this being the recess which normally receives the head of a conventional liner bolt. The nut is provided with a blind threaded hole (25). The re-usable bolt has a stepped shank (18) and a thread (20) on its free end. The bolt (17) is inserted from the exterior of the mill and engages the nut (23). The fines produced during grinding cement the nut to the liner but do not cement the bolt to the liner or the bolt to the nut. The head of a conventional liner bolt is located within the mill and its conventional nut is located exterior of the mill, whereas the re-usable bolt (17) has its head exterior of the mill and its nut (23) interior of the mill. Methods of assembly and dis-assembly of the bolt (17) and nut (23) are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2013Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventor: Dale Coray

Publication number: 20150024230Abstract: Liner plates of mild steel layered over with chromium carbide are provided with a bi-planar spacer clip also acting as a lifting eye on the top surfaces thereof and fasteners such as bolts or studs extending from the exposed planar surface of the mild steel layer. A chain and hook arrangement is used to deliver and locate each liner plate adjacent a wall upon which the liner plates are to be mounted in vertically stacked relationship. The clips serve as spacers between vertically stacked liner plates and the fasteners extend through pre-formed holes in the wall of the delivery structure. The clips have a notched base portion which receives a weld bead running along the top exposed edge of only the mild steel layer. The clips are left in place after installation and are gradually worn away by ore traveling through the delivery structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2013Publication date: January 22, 2015Inventor: Rickey E.
