Patent number: 6751840Abstract: A wirelaying apparatus and method using a tool (30) having a cutter (31) operatively opening a cut in the interior bore surface (11) of a cylindrical pipe fitting (10), laying wire (12) into the cut and closing the cut using a flange closer (33). The wire (12) is delivered into the cut via an aperture (32) through the cutting means (31). Delivery of the wire (12) into the cut is thereby improved, overcoming the problem of wire running free within the fitting. In a second embodiment (see FIG. 12) the cutter (31) is rotatably mounted allowing a double helical coil to be formed without removing the cutter from the bore surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: MSA Engineering Systems LimitedInventors: Gary Jones, Paul Cawrey

Publication number: 20040025321Abstract: A device and method of removing a rivet which has been installed on a work piece. The method includes clamping a hand held device having springs onto the work piece, engaging a drill with a drill bit of the hand held device, the springs applying a pre-load force to the drill bit, operating the drill, thereby causing the springs to apply an increased load force to the drill bit and causing the drill bit to drill into a button of the rivet, unclamping and removing the hand held device from the work piece, and using a compression tool to remove the rivet from the work piece. The compression tool includes a push out portion configured to push out the rivet, and a recess is disposed generally opposite the push out portion for catching the rivet as the rivet is pushed out.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2003Publication date: February 12, 2004Applicant: Textron Inc.Inventors: Steven P. Patent number: 6568062Abstract: A through-hole self-piercing rivet 30 is assembled with two metal plates 50 and 52 to retain the plates together as a workpiece 54. When the rivet 30 is to be removed, a pin, such as a contact pin 56, is attached to the rivet by fusion, or a pin, such as a threaded mandrel 78, is attached threadedly to the rivet. The contact pin 56 or the threaded mandrel 78 is withdrawn from the workpiece 54 to thereby withdraw the attached rivet 30 from the workpiece. Devices 62 and 84 provide facility for effecting the attachment of the contact pin 56 and the threaded mandrel 78, respectively, with the rivet 30, and for the extraction of the rivet from the workpiece 54.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: Newfrey LLCInventors: Reinhold Opper, Dieter Mauer

Patent number: 6430804Abstract: A balloon locking cup and securing system includes a cup having a latch interposed between a funnel shaped cup portion and a tube extension. The balloon cup is placed over a reciprocating needle hook rod in a securing system. The tail of the balloon is received by a hook at the end of the hook rod and a first pneumatic cylinder is actuated to pull the needle hook rod in such a manner as to pull the balloon into nesting engagement with the balloon cup. At the end of travel of the first pneumatic cylinder, a second pneumatic cylinder is automatically actuated, causing a knife blade to separate the end of the balloon tail just beneath the tubular member of the balloon cup assembly. The drawing of the balloon into the cup assembly actuates the latch which engages the balloon tail near the neck of the balloon and secures the balloon in the cup assembly.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Inventors: David C. Patent number: 6163951Abstract: A method and apparatus for lifting the tabs of a protective seal with edges embedded in a laminate. The base of the device has an annular top having a plurality of cartridge receiving apertures spaced equally from one another. Each hole receives a tab engagement assembly comprising a cartridge, a spring, and a finger have an abutment surface. The finger is pivotally fastened at one end within the slot of the cartridge and is biased away from the cartridge by the spring. When the base is placed in proximate relationship with the laminate seal patch secured to the substrate, the rotating base causes the abutment surfaces of the fingers to drag across the periphery of the laminate seal in a circular motion. The stresses created on the tabs of the protective seal cause the embedded edges to be lifted. The lifted tabs are accessible to the end user and the protective seals may be easily peeled from the substrate when desired by the end user.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Sealright Co., Inc.Inventors: Phillip Mark Bell, Ronald Dean Robertson, George Edward MacEwen
