Brush Patents (Class 29/826)
  • Patent number: 11764532
Abstract: The metal graphite grounding brush including silver is made in slide contact with a peripheral surface of an axle and grounds the axle. The mass ratio between silver and carbonaceous components including a volatile component in the brush is silver above 30% and up to 90% and carbonaceous components less than 70% and down to 10%. When the total of silver and carbonaceous components is made 100%, the volatile component is down to 2.0% and up to 15%. The brush grounds the axle reliably so that noise from a car radio is reduced and has a long service life and mechanical strength.

  • Patent number: 9601888
Abstract: The present invention relates to a brush type contact material, including one or more curved metal pawls of which ends come into contact with objects to be contacted. The ends of the pawls have an arc-like cross section in a thickness direction, a curvature radius R1 on a front side from a contact point with the object to be contacted and a curvature radius R2 on a back side from the contact point are formed so as to be R1?R2, and also both ends in a width direction of the pawl are chamfered. At this time, preferably, R1 is larger than R2 (R1>R2), and R1 divided by R2 (R1/R2) is 3.0 or less. The brush type contact material according to the present invention enables a smoother sliding movement than ever before and can be relatively simply manufactured.

  • Publication number: 20090033172
Abstract: A manufacturing method for a brush that can reduce contact surface area between a commutator and the brush, thereby reducing frictional noise, is provided. Specifically, a method to manufacture a brush, which provides one surface with contact surfaces that make sliding contact with the commutator, involves a step to mold a molded body and a step to cut the molded body. In the molding process, carbon powder containing copper powder is sintered to form a molded body having a groove on the top surface along the direction of the axis of rotation of the commutator, and curved surface margins in the margins of the top surface in the direction of the axis of rotation. In the cutting step, the central part of the top surface of the molded body is cut by a grinding stone along the cutting direction to form contact surfaces between the margins of the top surface.

  • Patent number: 4580333
Abstract: A process and apparatus for preventing film stripping and grooving of a dynamoelectric machine commutator. The process is usable in either repairing or initially manufacturing a high-powered, high-speed dynamoelectric machine. In the process, extra-wide brushes and associated brush holders are mounted in place of conventional standard size brushes and brush holders in order to restrict variations in current unbalance between a plurality of electrically paralleled brushes to a range of 10 to 15% of rated full load brush current density in the brushes at rated load. A machine constructed according to the invention is made with a plurality of extra-wide brushes and brush holders, with no more than four brushes electrically connected in parallel on respective brush holder studs positioned in operating relationship around the commutator thereby to so restrict the permitted range of current density unbalance between brushes.

  • Patent number: 4579611
Abstract: A connection between a graphite or carbon block having a cavity therein and the end of an electrical conductor disposed therein is made with a tamping material comprising flowable graphite powder, a metal oxide, a resin binder, and a flow promoter such a silica or a resin. The finished connection is treated with an acid dopant which reacts with the metal oxide to form a bond between the conductor and the block.

  • Patent number: 4397085
Abstract: A method of making a plurality of multi-wire nonimpact printheads provides precise inter-wire spacing accuracy and repeatability of manufacturing steps to enable mass production.A plurality of slats are molded, one alongside another on a cylindrical support shell, parallel to the shell axis. A helical thread is engraved on the slats along the axial length of the support shell. A continuous wire is wrapped in the thread and the portions of the wire on the slats are encapsulated. The support shell and wrapped wire is cut between adjacent slats to obtain a plurality of printhead blanks. Each blank is machined to smooth the exposed print wires. The resultant printheads may be used in page- width nonimpact printers.

  • Patent number: 4330349
Abstract: A method for making conductive brushes which comprises providing a rotatable cylindrical mandrel having a plurality of longitudinal recesses on its surface, and winding electrically conductive fibers from a supply around the mandrel by rotating the mandrel. The brush backing or base may be formed by a number of methods utilizing the recesses on the surface of the mandrel. In one embodiment, the brush backing is formed by placing a strip of a conductive material in each of the recesses, and after the conductive fibers have been wound thereover, the conductive fiber windings are caused to adhere to each other by adhesive means and another strip of conductive material is placed over the windings to mate with the strip in the recess to form the backing for the conductive brush. Individual conductive brushes are obtained by cutting the conductive fibers in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4296985
Abstract: An integral electrical contact (10, 110, 210) and a method for making the electrical contact is disclosed. The contact includes an elongated electrical conducting base portion (19, 119, 219) which has an axial passage (29, 129, 229) extending therethrough and also includes several axially aligned electrical wires (20, 120, 220) integrally formed with the base portion. The wires are axially aligned with the passage of the base portion and extend beyond a first end (18, 118, 218) of the base portion. Each of the wires which extends beyond the first end of the base portion includes an end portion (24, 124, 224) that terminates in an acutely angled surface. The electrical contact is made by coining an electrically conductive flat sheet of material (12) to form a plurality of elongated raised design portions (14, 16, 114, 116, 214, 216) which are axially aligned and extend inwardly from one end surface (13) of the sheet.
