  • Publication number: 20080175704
Abstract: A centrifugal environmentally safe pump including a motor driven pump shaft having a fluid pumping impeller affixed thereto. A plurality of annular shaft supporting bearing assemblies are disposed along the shaft adjacent a lubrication chamber, the lubrication chamber housing lubrication fluid (e.g. oil) maintained at a level below rotating portions of the bearing assemblies so as to maintain a low operating temperature within the chamber and adjacent the bearings. A lubricating fluid dispenser having a thin-profile, disc-shaped portion is affixed to the pump shaft within the lubrication chamber for rotation along with the shaft. A plurality of wire-like fluid contacting members are loosely connected along the outer periphery of the disc-shaped portion through respective bearing sleeves, the wire members for dipping into the lubricating fluid when the pump shaft is rotating thereby dispersing or misting the fluid throughout the chamber.

  • Patent number: 7278828
Abstract: A gas turbine engine plenum cover is repaired using a prefabricated repair cover SPAD. The SPAD repair cover has a spoolie boss that is aligned and attached to the body of the repair plenum cover prior to attachment to a plenum casting to form a repaired plenum chamber. Preattachment of the spoolie boss by brazing methods, as well as optional machining of a borescope hole prior to or after attachment of the repair cover, greatly simplifies the repair process, thereby reducing the time required and cost of repair.

  • Patent number: 6908281
Abstract: A blower housing for a furnace blower assembly of the type including a blower motor coupled to an impeller for use in expelling exhaust gases from a furnace. The blower housing generally includes an inlet, an impeller cavity, and an extension portion extending from the impeller cavity, the extension portion terminating in a circular outlet to which a round flue pipe may be attached. The blower housing is formed by three housing members joined to one another, wherein the housing members may be formed from metal using conventional stamping, drawing, and forming processes, for example. To form a variety of different types of blower housings having different outlet offset distances, only the dimensions of cooperating portions of two of the housing members need be varied, with one of the housing members used in common among the different types of blower housings.

  • Patent number: 6884032
Abstract: A water pump having a housing with an opening defined by an axial inner retention surface and a radial outer surface. A plug formed of sheet metal includes a radial closure portion surrounded by a continuous axial flange adapted to be press fitted into the inner retention surface of the housing. Before assembly, an adhesive is applied to either the axial flange of the plug or the inner retention surface of the housing. The plug is then pressed into the housing so that the flange of the plug engages the inner retention surface of the housing. After the adhesive sets, a water tight seal is formed between the plug and the housing adequate to hold pressurized coolant within the housing of the water pump.

  • Patent number: 6754954
Abstract: The difficulty of working with titanium has inhibited the adoption of titanium compressor wheels in automotive air boost devices. The invention provides an economical process for the manufacture of titanium compressor wheels. A hybrid process is disclosed, wherein a forging process is used to produce a near net shape pattern including filled in areas (10, 11) which must be subsequently machined or milled away to produce the net shape compressor wheel. Using the hybrid or two-step process, the technical complexity and time investment in each step is greatly reduced, flaws as associated with the casting technique are eliminated, the process allows itself to be fully automated, the dimensional accuracy of the final product is greater than with conventional techniques, and the strength of the compressor wheel is increased as compared to cast product.

  • Patent number: 6206632
Abstract: An air bleed tube is attached to a single-stage centrifugal pump, which has an impeller and a liquid suction tube whose inlet is at a center of the impeller. The air bleed tube is attached with its air inlet at an exposed eye of the impeller to bleed air from the pump and thereby reduce the likelihood that the pump will lose its prime. A light-touch check valve at an air outlet of the air bleed tube allows air at the impeller eye to be discharged from the pump and at the same time prevents air from being sucked by venturi vacuum pressure in the pump back into the air bleed tube and the pump.
