  • Patent number: 11060460
Abstract: A fuel distribution system for a gas turbine powerplant. A fuel injector with a cylindrical body defines a single internal plenum sealed at an engagement end, having multiple axial openings in a midsection, and injection ports in an injection end. A fuel manifold defines a hollow annular fuel chamber with substantially parallel and opposing top and bottom surfaces. One chamber wall includes multiple cylindrical channels extending between the top and bottom surfaces. Each channel is connected through the wall to the fuel chamber. Each channel has securing features to engage corresponding securing features of the fuel injectors. When a fuel injector is inserted through the top surface into one of the channels in the manifold and the securing features engage, the engaging feature protrudes from the top surface, the injection ports protrude from the bottom surface, and the axial openings are in fluid communication with the fuel chamber.

Abstract: A process for forming an integrated multiplex electrospray includes forming multiple holes in a ring extractor substrate to create a ring extractor. A nozzle array having multiple nozzles each nozzle defining a central axis is provided. A spacer layer is bonded to either the ring extractor or the nozzle array to form a bonded stack. The bonded stack is then aligned with remaining layer to align each of the multiple nozzles with one of the plurality of holes to less than 10 microns from concentric and the spacer layer then bonded intermediate between the ring extractor and the nozzle array layer. The spacer layer is then etched to provide fluid communication between multiple nozzles and the multiple holes of the ring extractor and form the spacer.

Abstract: A method of forming a perforate membrane (1) is disclosed for use in a liquid transport device. The membrane has at least plural nozzles (10) formed therethrough. Each of those nozzles has a throat portion (12) opening at opposite end through opposite surface (2?) of the perforate membrane and a smoothly curved outwardly diverging portion (11) extending from the first end of the throat portion to the first surface (2) of the perforate membrane. Laser energy is applied selectively to the first surface (2) of the membrane in the form of a pulsed, focused beam to form the nozzles (10) and thereafter the first surface (2) of the membrane and the surface of the diverging portion (11) of the nozzles (10) are electro-polished to remove surface imperfections. The electro-polishing is controlled so as to remove material from the surface of the diverging portion (11) of the nozzles to a depth less than the length of the throat portion (12).
