Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a duct member having a plurality of adjustable sections which are rotatable relative to one another. The apparatus and method causes relative rotation between individual sections during the manufacturing process, to form a completed duct member in an automated process utilizing a rotating head assembly comprising a plurality of engagement members extendable radially outward of the rotating head body in an engagement position and retractable radially inward to a disengagement position. Accordingly, a 90 degree adjustable elbow can be produced in its 90 degree elbow configuration without requiring the machine operator to manually adjust the adjustable sections.

  • Patent number: 7096584
Abstract: A flexible connector comprises a length of corrugated tubing, a polymeric sleeve aligned with the distal end of the length of corrugated tubing, and a length of mesh tubing extending the entire length of corrugated tubing and over the polymeric sleeve. The distal end of the corrugated tubing, the polymeric sleeve, and the distal end of the length of mesh tubing are received in a sleeve which is formed integrally with an end piece. The sleeve is crimped into permanent retaining engagement with the length of corrugated tubing, the polymeric sleeve, and the length of mesh tubing. The end piece functions to secure the flexible connector into engagement with an adjacent component.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a tube with varying wall thickness includes the step of drawing a tube over a generally cylindrical mandrel having an outer diameter that fluctuates along the length of the mandrel between a first diameter and a second diameter. The tube is drawn over the mandrel to form a tube wall having a thickness that fluctuates along the length of the tube between a first wall thickness and a second wall thickness. After the tube is drawn over the mandrel, the mandrel is removed from the tube. The outer surface of the tube may be finished to form a substantially uniform outer diameter along the length of the tube.

  • Patent number: 7040018
Abstract: A method is provided of radially expanding a connector for interconnecting a first tube to a second tube, the connector including a pin member extending into a box member. The pin and box members have cooperating support means arranged to support the pin member so as to prevent radially inward movement of the end portion of the pin member relative to the box member. The method involves radially expanding the connector, and supporting the pin member so as to prevent radially inward movement of the end portion of the pin member relative to the box member.

  • Patent number: 6928732
Abstract: An arbitrary position of a pipe is clamped and a connector is engaged with the pipe. Then, an end portion of the pipe is expanded with a tool such as a diameter expanding punch so as to caulk the pipe to the connector from inside. As a pipe fluctuation-absorbing portion, which is a relief space of pipe material, is provided in a portion of an inner face of the connector, when the diameter-expanding portion is formed, an excess pipe material is absorbed there and the length of the pipe is reduced and adjusted to an appropriate value. A portion in which the pipe fluctuation-absorbing portion is formed is not limited to a forward end portion of the pipe but it may be formed on an inner face of the connector corresponding to an intermediate portion.

  • Patent number: 6920691
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multi-cell tube having two or more cells, which are repeatedly formed in longitudinal and circumferential directions of the tube in such a manner that fluid can be separately or simultaneously let into and/or out of the respective cells. The multi-cell tube comprises a cell unit including a plurality of cells arranged in one direction of the tube and have corresponding inlets in a direction intersecting with the direction in which the cells are arranged; a supply tube unit which has an opening/closing valve at any one side end thereof and communicates with the inlets of all the cells in a state where the supply tube unit is close to the cells; and an operating tube unit, made of inflatable material (e.g. rubber, plastics or the like), which is installed within the supply tube unit, and has an opening/closing valve at any one side end thereof.

  • Publication number: 20050044710
Abstract: A method of forming a fluid quick connect includes steps forming a housing having a split end retainer slidably mounted in a recess in at least one end of the housing. A first angular recess is formed in the housing adjacent the first end. The first recess communicates with a bore extending from the first end of the housing. The retainer is captured in the recess by deforming an extension of the first end of the housing angularly inward. In one aspect, a conical surface is formed inward of the extension to form the recess in conjunction with the deformed extension. The retainer and recess may be used at one end of the housing for connection with one endform or at both ends of the housing to fluidically couple two endforms.
