Patent number: 9486872Abstract: The present invention relates to a manufacturing method for advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) wheel, comprising the following steps. Take an AHSS with at least 590 MPa of tensile strength for rolling to circular ring of a rim. Apply low heat input welding, such as the cold metal transfer (CMT) welding or the gas tungsten arc welding/tungsten inert gas arc welding (GTAW/TIG), at the junction of the rim to form a hollow cylindrical rim. Then perform hole expanding and spinning/roll forming operations to the rim. Take another AHSS with at least 980 MPa of tensile strength for pressing and forming a disk. Apply low heat input welding, such as cold metal transfer (CMT) welding, to the rim and the disk to produce a wheel. According to the present invention, the welding quality of products can be improved significantly; the fatigue lifetime of wheels can be enhanced; and wheels are lightweight.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2013Date of Patent: November 8, 2016Assignee: Metal Industries Research & Development CentreInventors: Chi-Wah Keong, Chih-Lun Lin, Chia-Min Wei, Chun-Chieh Wang, Lung-Tien Wu

Patent number: 8926025Abstract: A vehicle wheel includes a rim having an inner peripheral surface, and a center disc portion spaced radially inwardly from the inner peripheral surface. The center disc portion includes a body having a plurality of protruding portions separated from each other by curved recesses. The wheel further includes a plurality of structural arms with each structural arm having a first arm end attached to the inner peripheral surface of the rim at a first weld attachment interface and a second arm end received within one of the curved recesses of the body. Each of the second arm ends is attached to the center disc portion at a second weld attachment interface.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2010Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: Iochpe-Maxion S.A.Inventors: Andre Fior, Marcio Aparecido de Oliveira, Fernando T. Patent number: 8578607Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of designing spokes of a non-pneumatic tire which randomly arranges spokes around a circumference to optimize noise dispersion. The method of designing spokes of a non-pneumatic tire includes placing a plurality of spokes (2) holding and supporting a tread (1) to be radially installed around a circumference of the tire on a circular spoke support (3) under the tread (1) to be in contact with the ground, wherein the spokes (2) are arranged at three angles on the circular spoke support (3) around the circumference of the tire, the three angles being divided into a small angle (a), a medium angle (b) and a large angle (c), and the spokes (2) are arranged at irregular angles under a condition that a ratio (q) of the large angle (c) to the small angle (a) is greater than a ratio (p) of the medium angle (b) to the small angle (a).Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2011Date of Patent: November 12, 2013Assignee: Hankook Tire Co., Ltd.Inventor: Yong Hun Kim

Patent number: 8215720Abstract: The invention relates to a spoke wheel that includes a peripheral rim, a central hub, and individual connecting spokes between the rim and the hub. In their free state, the spokes of the wheel are mounted without tension or compression between the rim and the hub, and each spoke can bear a compression load of at least 60 daN without bowing. Furthermore, the wheel includes a play-free connection or bilateral connection device for connecting at least one end of each spoke to the rim or the hub.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2007Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Salomon S.A.S.Inventors: Jean-Pierre Mercat, Olivier Mouzin

Patent number: 7866045Abstract: A method intended for manufacturing a bicycle spoked wheel is described. By inserting the nipples or barrels for the attachment of the spokes in the spoke attachment seats from the inside of the spoke attachment chamber through a suitably sized opening, instead of from the outside, the rim of the bicycle wheel can be manufactured without additional openings, even when using conventional nipples or barrels.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2007Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: Campagnolo S.r.l.Inventors: Mario Meggiolan, Maurizio Passarotto

Publication number: 20100096907Abstract: A spoke for a wire wheel of the type including a rim and a hub interconnected with one another by a plurality of spokes, each of which includes an end portion arranged to be retained at least in one direction in a seat associated with the rim. The spoke has a bush associated with the end portion for receiving same to define the seat. The bush is arranged to be inserted in a through-hole of the rim.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2007Publication date: April 22, 2010Inventors: Guido Cappellotto, Fabio Alberio

Publication number: 20080315674Abstract: A spoked bicycle wheel is presented where the masses of a set of spoke connections for connection of a hub and a rim as a whole are imbalanced with respect to the rotational axis. In such a way the dynamic imbalance of the wheel due to localized mass increases at the valve and at a possible joint is reduced or eliminated.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2008Publication date: December 25, 2008Applicant: CAMPAGNOLO, S.r.l.Inventors: Maurizio Passarotto, Davide Urbani

Patent number: 7178239Abstract: A method intended for manufacturing a bicycle spoked wheel is described. By inserting the nipples or barrels for the attachment of the spokes in the spoke attachment seats from the inside of the spoke attachment chamber instead of from the outside, after having inserted them in the chamber from a suitably sized opening, the rim of the bicycle wheel can be manufactured even without additional openings, still using conventional nipples or barrels.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2003Date of Patent: February 20, 2007Assignee: Campagnolo S.r.l.Inventors: Mario Meggiolan, Maurizio Passarotto
