Compression, E.g., Nontension, Spoke Type Wheel Making Patents (Class 29/894.34)
  • Patent number: 9375976
Abstract: A wheel includes a rim having an outer radius, R1, extending from a center point of the wheel to an outer edge of the rim, and a hub having an outer radius, R2, extending from the center point of the wheel to an outer edge of the hub. The hub is positioned coaxially with the rim and has a plurality of circumferentially positioned and equiangularly spaced bolt holes for attachment of the wheel to the vehicle. The wheel further includes a plurality of equiangularly spaced, Y-shaped spokes having a trunk portion contacting the hub, two limb portions each contacting the rim, and a branch point at which the trunk portion and limb portions converge. The spokes extend radially outward from the hub to the rim. The bolt holes are interspaced between the trunk portions. A distance between the center point of the wheel and the branch point is D1.

  • Patent number: 8578607
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of designing spokes of a non-pneumatic tire which randomly arranges spokes around a circumference to optimize noise dispersion. The method of designing spokes of a non-pneumatic tire includes placing a plurality of spokes (2) holding and supporting a tread (1) to be radially installed around a circumference of the tire on a circular spoke support (3) under the tread (1) to be in contact with the ground, wherein the spokes (2) are arranged at three angles on the circular spoke support (3) around the circumference of the tire, the three angles being divided into a small angle (a), a medium angle (b) and a large angle (c), and the spokes (2) are arranged at irregular angles under a condition that a ratio (q) of the large angle (c) to the small angle (a) is greater than a ratio (p) of the medium angle (b) to the small angle (a).

Abstract: A wheel for a vehicle which is excellent in appearance quality, is light, and has stiffness. In the wheel for the vehicle having a rim section which has a substantially cylindrical shape and into which a tire is fit, and a disk section having a substantially disk shape and bonded to the inside of the rim section, the rim section includes a rim body part and a rim flange part, the rim body part is formed such that the thickness of a part to which the disk section is bonded is thicker than the thicknesses of the other parts, and the rim flange part is formed by bending both thin end parts of the rim body part into a hollow shape.

  • Patent number: 6758532
Abstract: An automobile spider wheel is made of aluminum alloys and has an outer face layer made of stainless steel. A process for manufacturing the automobile spider wheel includes working the stainless steel insert by a known press process based on side face shapes of an automobile wheel. Joining faces of the insert are treated roughly by sanding or brushing for joining with melted aluminum alloys. Protrusions are fixed on the joining faces of the insert in positions corresponding to rim support faces of the insert. The stainless steel insert is inserted in surface-to-surface relationship with a surface of a lower mold of a molding device with the protrusions projecting upwardly. The stainless steel insert is integrally molded-to the melted alloys to form the wheel by a known die casting process after closing the molding device.

  • Patent number: 6219918
Abstract: A spoked wheel rim having a hub defining an axis, a plurality of spokes projecting radially from the hub, and a rim ring attached to outer ends of the spokes is machined by first mounting it in a loading/unloading station into a holder rotatable about a holder axis with the rim axis generally coaxial with the holder axis. Then the holder is orbited by a turntable carrying the holder from the loading/unloading station into a working station angularly offset relative to the loading/unloading station about a turntable axis between the stations. A rotating tool is then displaced by means of a head carried on a hexapod positioner at least over surfaces of the spokes while holding the rim stationary in the working station to machine the surfaces. The rim is then continuously rotated about the holder axis in the working station while engaging a rotating tool carried on the hexapod positioner with an edge of the rim ring to machine the edge.
