  • Patent number: 10564147
Abstract: Novel systems and methods are provided that rapidly separate particles from a liquid. In an embodiment, a small volume of liquid (such as a blood sample, or any other solution with a concentration of particles) is input into a flow device implemented as a unilateral channel. When activated by an acoustic energy source (such as an ultrasound pulse), gas-liquid interfaces naturally occurring between the liquid in the flow device and a plurality of gas-filled cavities that line the channel will oscillate and create stable cavitation streaming within a localized region of the surrounding liquid. These oscillations create micro-vortices that gently remove and trap particles and debris from the liquid and adjacent surfaces. Fluid and particle manipulation can thus be accomplished on a passive, disposable chip that is placed on top of an external acoustic transducer with a coupling medium.

The electrogenerative portion is preferably a piezoelectric or electromagnetic structure, although other types of structures are known within the art. The contacting surface is mechanically coupled to portions of the base structure through one or more elastic elements. The various portions of the base structure can be positioned relative to other base structure portions to alter the elasticity of the system or the tensioning of the elastic elements. The field of flow exerts forces upon the contacting structure which causes movement in the contacting surface structure relative to the base structure through the electrogenerative portion.

Abstract: A conveying device for producing energy, including a circulating conveying member of containers, which have a load strand and a return strand, the conveying device being equipped in such a way that the conveying device slides or rolls downward by means of the load strand on a inclined plane having an angle (alpha), wherein the load strand moves the return strand, and a device for drawing power arranged on the conveying member and being moved by the circulating conveying member, the device including a means for removing energy from the device. The method for operating the device is characterized in that, while the conveying member is circulating, the first container running into the load strand (in the area of arrow A) is loaded with a burdening good and the good is discharged shortly before exiting the load strand (at arrow B).

Abstract: The present invention provides a floating tower frame for an ocean current turbine system comprising multiple rotors, which is designed to generate electrical power or high pressure seawater for reverse osmosis or fresh water production from steady (gyre) or tidal currents. Turbines are mounted near the base of a plurality of floating towers held in parallel between a horizontal truss structure above water and a horizontal wing at the base of the towers, below the surface. The center of gravity of the system is located in the bottom one third of the towers below the water line, while the center of buoyancy is in the top third of the towers below the surface, and the entire structure floats vertically, with respect to the towers.

  • Patent number: 9303619
Abstract: The hydrokinetic energy conversion system uses, in one embodiment, a perpendicular turbine coupled to an electrical generator and a laminar water flow shroud. The ballast and buoyancy system includes hydrofoils defining lateral sides of the shroud mounted on upper and lower decks. Ballast chambers are defined in some or all of the foils and each has a gas intake port and a water ballast output port. The shroud carries a source of compressed air, valves for control of air flow into the ballast chambers. The ballast and buoyancy system includes a control system with sensors for depth, pitch, yaw and roll of the shroud which generates valve control commands. Another embodiment utilizes an inline turbine and a radial water flow shroud with a plurality of circumferential hydrofoils. Struts mount the turbine near the primary hydrofoil and braces attach ring hydrofoils together. Alternatively, ballast chambers are defined in outboard-mounted ballast pods.

  • Patent number: 9291153
Abstract: A tubular housing can include at least one fixed helical vane formed onto the inner surfaces of the tubular housing in a spiral and adapted to direct fluid into a spiraled flow and focus fluid onto a fan blade assembly associated with an alternator system and located within the tubular housing before a system exhaust. A generator cone can be mounted near the center and front of the fan blade assembly facing fluid passing through the tubular housing. As fluid passes over the generator cone it experiences compression between the generator cone and housing resulting in increased pressure and velocity of the fluid, thereby increasing rotational speed of the generator blades and generator as the compressed, spiraled fluid passes through the blades and exits the tubular housing. The system can be used for fixed or mobile applications in water, wind and manually induced fluid flow.
