Publication number: 20130119678Abstract: A multi-point lock assembly includes a pair of spaced apart latching members for locking sliding doors, windows or other similar structures. The lock assembly includes a housing rotationally supporting a pair of actuators provided with a plurality of gears arranged in meshed engagement with one another. The latching members are formed as threaded bolts received within the distal end of a long and short arm assembly. As the actuators are rotated, the distal end of the long and short arm assemblies track along the track within the sidewalls. The track causes each of the bolts to be displaced vertically and longitudinally along the longitudinal axis of the housing from an unlatched position to a latched position. The bolts are adjustable by vary their threaded engagement within the distal ends of the arm assemblies for alignment with the opposing keeper.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2011Publication date: May 16, 2013Applicant: FASCO DIE CAST INC.Inventor: Robert Furgiuele

Publication number: 20110296880Abstract: A lock for a sliding door or window including a latching linkage and an inner manual lever, that allows movement of the latching linkage between a locked and an unlocked position by means of the manual lever and by operation of a inside or outside key barrel, but also allows deadlocking of the latching linkage in its locked position so that operation of the manual lever to unlock the latching linkage is prevented. It is however, desirable that the lock be operable to lock the lock from the inside by a convenient operation of the manual lever when the user is inside the house. It is further desirable that the door is able to be dead-locked by a key from the inside or the outside in a manner that prevents unlocking of the door by the manual handle, since a house owner may find it inconvenient to have to walk around the outside of their house locking the doors.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2009Publication date: December 8, 2011Applicant: INGERSOLL-RAND ARCHITECTURAL HARDWARE LIMITEDInventors: Edward Norton Sieglaar, Peter Mark Hill

Patent number: 7090263Abstract: An apparatus for latching a door against a frame has a door pin extending from the door and a handle lever rotatably mounted to the door and having an extending handle pin. A latch bar is mounted for reciprocating travel relative to the frame, the latch bar having a first slot having a cam surface adapted to receive the door pin, and a second slot adapted to receive the handle pin. The latch bar and handle have a first position where the handle pin enters the second slot and the door pin enters the first slot, and a second position where the handle pin contacts the second slot and the cam surface bears against the door pin. Rotation of the handle when the latch bar is in the first position causes the handle pin to bear against the second slot, moving the latch bar in a latching direction from the first position to the second position, so that the first slot on the cam surface bears against the door pin and urges the door in a closing direction.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2001Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: SPX CorporationInventors: John Patrick Quigley, Terry Ludwig

Patent number: 6109668Abstract: A locking mechanism used to secure any number of window sashes closed against a window frame includes one or more keepers mounted to the window sash, and a tie bar having thereon a corresponding number of rollers, and an actuator assembly mounted to the window frame. The actuator assembly is configured to reciprocally move the tie bar and includes a housing and a handle lever and actuator arm pivotally mounted to the housing. A camming pin is coupled to the handle lever so that the rotation of the handle lever rotates the camming pin along an arc of a circle centered on the handle pivot. The pin extends into a slot formed in the actuator arm remote from an end coupled to the tie bar. As the camming pin moves along its arcuate path, its engagement with the slot urges the actuator arm in pivotal movement which in turn moves the tie bar.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1999Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Inventor: Giuseppe Demarco

Patent number: 5839767Abstract: An actuator for a window lock including a housing mountable to a window frame and defining an opening between opposite sides, one of the sides having a recessed portion therein. A handle is pivotable about an axis within the housing opening and has a central opening with sloped cam surfaces therearound. A cam bushing is receivable in the handle central opening and has sloped cam surfaces engageable with the handle cam surfaces whereby pivoting of the handle relative to the cam bushing axially biases the cam bushing relative to the handle toward a locking position. The cam bushing further includes a stop tab extending from one side of the cam bushing and receivable in the housing recessed stop when the actuator is in a locking position. The cam bushing one side is axially biased toward the housing one side. Patent number: 5370428Abstract: A door- or window sash which is pivotable relative to a door- or window frame between open and closed positions can be releasably affixed to the frame in the closed position in response to turning of a handle which can shift an elongated carrier relative to the frame between two spaced-apart end positions. The carrier supports a series of longitudinally spaced-apart projections each of which fully engages a complementary retainer on the sash during different stages of movement of the handle from one end position to the other end position. The arrangement may be such that the projection nearest to the handle is first to engage the complementary retainer on the sash, that the projection which is adjacent the nearest projection is next to engage the corresponding retainer, and so on. Patent number: 5120094Abstract: Locking apparatus for securing in a closed disposition a sliding door panel defined, in part, by a jamb-engaging stile which, when the panel is in a closed disposition, is received within a channel defined by frame members defining the jamb. The apparatus includes one or more locking bosses which are received within the channel defined by the frame members. The boss, or bosses, are recessed so that, when the panel is in an open disposition, they do not protrude out of the channel beyond the frame members which define the jamb. Further, the apparatus includes means carried by the jamb-engaging stile for capturing one or more of the locking bosses when the panel is in a closed disposition. Such capture apparatus precludes opening lateral movement of the door panel from its closed disposition.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1991Date of Patent: June 9, 1992Assignee: Marvin Lumber and Cedar Co.Inventors: Charles G. Patent number: 4991886Abstract: A window lock having plural ramped keepers for a window sash and plural rollers movably associated with a slider mountable on a window frame to provide multi-point locking. The ramped keepers are constructed and related to enable delayed lock-up of one roller and ramped keeper relative to the other in order to assure locking of racked or warped windows. A roller and associated ramped keeper are bevelled to counteract any flexibility that might be encountered in a flexible window, such as a window made of vinyl. The actuating mechanism provides for toggle positioning of the rotatable actuating handle and associated drive link to prevent movement of the lock mechanism by outside forces other than the handle. One or more tie bars, each having a roller, can be associated with the slider to provide for variation in the number of locking points and with further variations being achieved by the length of the tie bars as well as the number of rollers mounted thereon.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1990Date of Patent: February 12, 1991Assignee: Truth IncorporatedInventors: Douglas A. Patent number: 4500122Abstract: A fastener for sliding doors or windows comprises one or more bolt assemblies 8 having spring loaded bolts with heads 15 mounted in housing set into the stile 7. The fastener also comprises a receiver assembly 9 including a pair of rails 23,24 having similar aligned key-hole openings 25,26 respectively. The outer retainer rail 23 is slidable relative to the inner rail by operation of an actuator 27 controlled by a handle assembly 10. When the bolt heads 15 are received in the aligned openings 25,26 on closing of the stile 7 to the jamb, the handle 29 of the assembly 10 is turned causing the retainer rail 23 to move downwards to trap the heads 15 of the bolt in the narrower parts of each opening 25 in the retainer rail 23. The handle assembly 10 preferably includes a lock to prevent the handle 20 being rotated after locking. The spring loaded bolts provide a "buffer" action and prevent damage to the receiver assembly even if in the fastening position.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1983Date of Patent: February 19, 1985Assignee: Arthur Shaw Manufacturing LimitedInventor: Jack E.
