Patent number: 8186729Abstract: A bi-swing gate lock uses an electric actuator to unlatch the gate on request, and a failsafe mode that automatically unlatches the gate during emergencies or power failures. The traplock uses two swing arms that pivot retractable door stops in and out on either side of a closed gate from a stationary 4? post. Loads trying to force open a locked gate are redirected through polyurethane pads on the sides of the retractable door stops directly to the insides of matching pockets within the post. Such loads can flex the swing arms, but significant loads will not reach the swing arm pivot bearings. Keeping the gate locked requires electric power applied to a lock actuator, and the loss of power automatically unlocks the traplock. Power applied to a retraction actuator pushes out the retractable door stops. A sensor detects when the gate returns to a closed position and the lock actuator can be energized once again.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2008Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Inventor: David Dudley

The illustrated embodiment of the present invention is of an electromechanical type. The control circuit of the latch detects when a striker attached to one member, for example a door, has moved the pawl to a first latched position. A motor is then activated that drives the pawl to a second latched position to provide compression between the first member and a second member, for example a door frame.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2011Publication date: September 22, 2011Applicant: SOUTHCO, INC.Inventor: Thibaut Bernard Paul Grosdemouge

Patent number: 7980603Abstract: A locking system wherein the latch is rotatable to provide either a first beveled surface for use as a ramp in latching or a second beveled surface for use as a ramp in unlatching. An entire latch module may be rotated about its axis by a rotary solenoid to achieve this function, and the first and second ramping surfaces are physically the same surface repositioned by rotation 180°. Alternatively, a releasable latch has a beveled surface for engaging a striker plate during bolt entry and a non-beveled surface for locking. The latch is pivotable to allow the non-beveled surface to become the beveled ramp for unlocking. The releasably pivotable latch mechanism may be used with a deadlock. The mechanism is readily incorporated into a rim exit device for releasably securing a door such as an emergency exit and may be actuated either electrically or manually.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2008Date of Patent: July 19, 2011Assignee: Hanchett Entry Systems, Inc.Inventors: Joshua Todd Peabody, Dominik Scheffler, Lee J. Patent number: 7967347Abstract: A vacuum actuated door latching assembly for use in combination with a door of a delivery vehicle. The latch assembly moves between locked and unlocked positions and includes a pneumatic actuator that drives the latch assembly between the locked and unlocked positions. Extending from the pneumatic actuator is a vacuum line that is adapted to be connected to a vacuum source such as the engine of the delivery vehicle. A control valve is disposed between the vacuum source and the pneumatic actuator for controlling the activation of the pneumatic actuator. A biasing device engages the door and biases the door towards and open position. Thus, when the latching assembly is actuated the door of the delivery vehicle is unlatched and the biasing device causes the door to assume the open position.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2004Date of Patent: June 28, 2011Inventor: Lott Johnson
