Publication number: 20040183315Abstract: A safety device assembled on a lever handle style door opening device installed in a door to prevent the movement of the lever handle. The safety device is comprised of a covering to fit over the lever portion of a handle mounted in a door. The end of the cover farthest from the lever handle pivot has one end of a flexible connector fixedly attached. The other end of the flexible connector is fixedly attached to the door near the lever handle pivot. Whereby when the door handle lever is moved downward the flexible connector becomes taut thereby preventing the lever to continue a downward movement which would draw the door's bolt inward releasing the door latch. However, when the lever handle is moved upward the flexible connector bends allowing the upward movement to draw the door's bolt inward releasing the door latch.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2003Publication date: September 23, 2004Inventor: Henry George O'Donohoe

Patent number: 6742369Abstract: An auxiliary door lock for a dead bolt lock includes a relatively flat rectangular housing for mounting on a door over the interior operating knob of the dead bolt lock; and an actuator slidable and rotatable in an opening in a front wall of the housing. The actuator includes a hollow handle, which is used to rotate the knob. Teeth on the actuator mesh with teeth in the housing in one position of the actuator so that the latter and the knob cannot be rotated when the door is locked. Thus, even using a key, someone outside of the door cannot unlock the dead bolt lock. By pushing the actuator into the housing to a second position, the teeth are disengaged and the actuator can be rotated to unlock the dead bolt lock.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2003Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Inventor: Pierre Veillette

Patent number: 6327878Abstract: A portable security device which can be easily mounted on inwardly swinging doors. the device is made up of a inner plate which has first and second panels, an outer plate which has first and second panels, a hinge connecting, and permitting rotation between, the second panel of the inner plate and the first panel of the outer plate, a securing attachment, and a holding mechanism. The first and second panels of the inner plate are perpendicular to each other. The first panel of the inner plate fits against the strike plate and has a lock tab which fits into the bolt hole in a strike plate. The second panel of the inner plate fits against side edge of the door jamb and contains a horizontal protrusion which contains an opening. The first panel of the outer plate contains a horizontal slot which will fit over the protrusion when the device is in place, thus exposing the opening of the protrusion. Patent number: 6230965Abstract: A one piece, closure for containers having a pair of upper entry-exit flaps and a pair of lower entry-exit flaps. The closure includes an upper member and a lower member with a webbed wall disposed between and attached to both the upper and lower member. In use the webbed wall is placed between the closed upper flaps. A portion of the lower member extends to the front of the webbed wall and serves as a platform for receiving a portion of the lower flap, without interference from the upper member, upon the release of the lower flap by a separate flap pull. The flap pull comprises an elongated arm having at one end a handle for gripping and at an opposite end a catch for engaging the lower flap and lifting the lower flap against the upper flaps, at which point a beveled edge of the lower member of the closure engages the catch portion of the flap pull and is inserted underneath the catch portion of the flap pull.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1999Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Inventor: Percy W. Patent number: 6182485Abstract: A deadbolt security attachment, removably installable on a deadbolt latch handle by an occupant within a room or structure, made up of a flexible strap which secures to the deadbolt handle, is wrapped about the shank of a doorknob, and is extended to secure to itself, the strap facing surfaces including hook and loop securing material. When the present device is secured between the doorknob shank and the deadbolt latch handle, the latch handle cannot be moved through its normal arc of operation to allow the door to be opened. Even if a person attempting entry to the area has a key to the deadbolt lock, the torque which may be transmitted to the lock by the key, is easily overcome by the present security strap. The present device is completely removable from the doorknob shank and deadbolt latch handle to be carried by the user when the room is not occupied.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1998Date of Patent: February 6, 2001Inventor: Melinda A. Patent number: 6149212Abstract: An adjustable door stop that enables a hinged door to be propped open at any desired angle relative to the frame to which the door is mounted. Alternatively, the device enables a door to be securely closed, thereby operating as a lock. The device comprises a substantially cylinder-like structure placed over or otherwise mounted to a door hinge. An arcuate inner chamber is disposed and freely moves within the substantially hollow interior of an arcuate outer chamber. Various angular orientations are obtained by selectively aligning the inner chamber with the outer chamber.
