Abstract: Pickup truck bed tonneau covers and varieties thereof are manufactured using universal components. An outer frame is made from rails cut from universal rail stock. Universal, adjustable corner brackets can be fixed into a desired position to accommodate all different angles at the corners of the tonneau cover. Intermediate cross car rails are cut from universal rail stock and all are coupled to the outer frame via universal intermediate rail brackets. Opposing pairs of universal hinge brackets are used for all hinges of the tonneau cover. Thus, the tooling required to make a variety of tonneau covers is greatly reduced. An elongated step is adjacent to, and protrudes downwardly beyond, a seal coupling channel with a compressible seal extends along the outer frame. The downwardly protruding elongated step member acts as a continuous elongated stop, limiting compression of the seal member.

Abstract: A tonneau cover storage system for a vehicle includes a cargo compartment having a first sidewall and a cargo opening. A cavity is formed in the first sidewall. A container is pivotably attached to the first sidewall proximate the cavity at a first pivot point, and has a container opening sized and shaped to selectably fit into the cavity. A lid to selectably close off the container opening is also pivotably attached to the first pivot point and is pivotable independently of the container. A flexible tonneau cover is selectably configurable between a stowed condition within the container and a deployed condition closing off the cargo opening. The container is movable to a position within the cavity when the tonneau cover is in the stowed condition, and is further movable to a position outside the cavity when the tonneau cover is in the deployed condition.

  • Patent number: 7673926
Abstract: A relatively lightweight tarping system for use with trailers or other open top containers includes first and second spaced frame members and an elongated flexible member such as a cable or chain connected to and extending therebetween. A tarpaulin may be mounted thereon so that the frame members, flexible member and tarpaulin are pivotable between a covered position atop the open top container and an uncovered position. A four-bar linkage is preferably used in combination with a rotational drive mechanism to provide various advantages in rotating the tarpaulin assembly between the covered and uncovered positions. A width adjustment mechanism is provided to provide usage with trailers or other open top containers of different widths. An improved seal is provided between the tarpaulin and container.

  • Patent number: RE41078
Abstract: A tonneau cover is provided that is attached at its most forward end to an adjustable tensioning rail which spans the front end of a pickup truck box. The tensioning rail is adjustably attached at its outside edges to two side rails which are attached to the inside of a pickup box. The adjustable attachment of the tensioning rail to the side rails is accomplished by the use of a tensioning screw and two attachment blocks. As the tensioning screw is moved forwards and backwards by the use of the adjustment knob, the tensioning rail is moved in a corresponding manner. This adjustment is preformed when the tonneau cover is in the open position, and thus, allows a user to obtain the desired amount if tightness when the tonneau cover is subsequently placed in the closed position.
