Patent number: 6123382Abstract: A vehicle has a folding roof extending between lateral vehicle columns, particularly A-columns and C-columns, a rear window and a vehicle body with a trunk. The rear window is releasably connected in its lower area by way of a swivel device with the vehicle body. The rear window can be deposited in the trunk by way of the swivel device. The rear window is connected by connection devices in its lateral area with the C-columns and/or in its upper area with the folding roof in a releasable manner. In the lower area of the rear window, a sealing device extending in the transverse direction of the vehicle is arranged between the rear window and the vehicle body. Between the lateral areas of the rear window and the C-columns and/or the upper area of the rear window and the folding roof, a sealing device is provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1998Date of Patent: September 26, 2000Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventor: Martin Lorenz

Patent number: 5741043Abstract: A window assembly specifically for the rear hatch opening of a motor vehicle is provided which is pivotally moveable between an open position and includes an exterior surface mounted completely flush with adjacent surfaces of the vehicle body. In a preferred embodiment, a mounting bracket interconnects an adjustable support member and a glass panel of the window assembly through an adhesive bond. The mounting bracket includes a generally planar mounting portion and a tab portion. The mounting portion is generally curvilinear with the laterally opposing sides in parallel relationship to one another. The curvilinear configuration of the mounting portion functions to oppose a bending moment imparted by the adjustable support member as a result of pivotal movement of the glass panel between its open and closed positions.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1996Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventors: Patrick M. Patent number: 5127191Abstract: A second door part is provided which is detachably mounted at the outside surface of a first door part which is openable and closable in relation to an automobile body. The second door part is engaged with the first door part by a locking mechanism. By operating the locking mechanism, redressing of the door by selectively attaching different types of second door parts can be carried out. Additionally, maintenance of mechanisms within the door can be easily performed. When it is desired to provide a window glass which can be raised and lowered for the second door part, a window glass raising/lowering mechanism having a lever arm is mounted to the first door part and a window glass is mounted to the second door part, a glass holder is fixed to a lower end of the window glass and the lever arm and the glass holder are engaged with each other. When the second door part is attached to and detached from the first door part, the lever arm and the glass holder are also disengaged from one another.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1988Date of Patent: July 7, 1992Assignee: Mazda Motor CorporationInventor: Minoru Ohta

Patent number: 5121703Abstract: The present invention is directed to a clear view hard curtain which is comprised of a plurality of separable frames, each frame including at least one semi-rigid clear, flat panel, and a flexible frame surrounding the panel. Each of a plurality of frames may be attachable to a vehicle to thereby form an enclosure protecting the interior of the vehicle from external natural elements. Finally, the enclosure may be maintained during operation of the vehicle with the flexible framing member absorbing shock to the semi-rigid panels which may be caused by the movement of the vehicle. Preferably, the clear view hard curtain may be utilized as a protective enclosure for the bridge of a boat.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1991Date of Patent: June 16, 1992Inventor: Jeffrey L. Smith
