Abstract: The motor vehicle seat comprises a seat proper and a seat back. The seat is caused to go from a passenger position to a first load position by causing the seat proper to pivot through 90° about a horizontal axis close to its front edge, and by causing the seat back to pivot through 90° about a horizontal axis close to its bottom edge. The seat back thus comes to occupy the space that is occupied by the seat proper when it is in the passenger position. The inventive adjustment system is of the type that provides a means of selecting a preferred seat position, releasing the adjustment mechanism for free movement of the seat, and automatically arresting the adjustment mechanism, securing the seat at the selected position. Abstract: A motor vehicle seat has a base element which can be fastened in the motor vehicle, a seat element which is disposed on the base element, and a backrest element which is disposed on the seat element. The seat can be adjusted between a locked position and an unlocked position. In the locked position, the seat element and the backrest element can be used for normal sitting. In the unlocked position, the seat element and/or the backrest element are adjusted in the vehicle to the front with respect to the driving direction far enough so that a space arranged behind the seat with respect to the driving direction is accessible for loading and unloading. For adjustment between the locked position and the unlocked position, the seat element is swivellably disposed on the base element and/or the backrest element is swivellably disposed on the seat element.

A seat assembly is mounted thereon for longitudinal sliding movement of the seat assembly relative to the fixed track member. A track lock is operatively interconnected between the movable and fixed track members and movable between a locked configuration whereat the movable track member is precluded from moving longitudinally relative to the fixed track member and a released configuration whereat the movable track member is permitted to move longitudinally relative to the fixed track member. The seat assembly includes a seat cushion member mounted on the movable track member and a seatback member mounted on the seat cushion member for forward folding about a seatback pivot axis between a substantially upright occupiable position and a substantially horizontal load supporting position.

Abstract: The distance between the inner sides of side frames 42 and 43 composing a seat frame 40 is arranged to be wider than distance between the outer sides of the side frames 32 and 33, and a front end frame 41 of the seat frame 40 is arranged to be positioned outside an upper end frame 31 of the back frame 30 when the back frame and the seat frame come close upon folding so that the back frame 30 is surrounded by each of side frames 42, 43 and the front end frame 41, thereby enabling the seat to fold in such a manner that the back frame is placed in the inside of these frames composing the seat frame when the seat is folded. Accordingly, the thickness of the whole seat can be substantially the same as the seat cushion or the seat back alone, when the seat is folded. Thus, space for baggage in a vehicle can be increased, when the seat is folded.

  • Patent number: 6352310
Abstract: A vehicle seat has a backrest which can be tilted forward about a swivelling axis displaced toward the front with respect to the backrest into an alternate position for facilitating the entry and the exit. The backrest is fixed in its tilted-back end position by way of latching devices arranged on both sides on the seat cushion part, after which the latching devices can be synchronously unlocked in a remote-controlled manner by a common actuating element. For the swivel bearing and for the support of the backrest with respect to the seat cushion part, lateral support fittings are provided, on which, at a distance behind the forward swivelling axis, a hinge is arranged for adjusting the inclination of the backrest. The support fittings each have a rearward-projecting holding leg which ends at a distance behind the assigned hinge of the backrest, the free leg end of the holding leg in the tilted-back end position of the backrest being lockable on the seat cushion part.

The system has first and second tongue and buckle sets that are identical on outboard seats or either side of the center seat. The first and second sets are for use with a standard three-point shoulder and lap restraint system. The center seat also has a three-point restraint system but uses third and fourth tongue and buckle sets therefor with both tongues mounted to a single length of belt so that when disconnected from their corresponding buckles, the center seat back rest can be pivoted down without interference from the center seat belt restraint system. In addition, the tongues will only releasably lock in their corresponding buckles. To this end, the fourth tongue and buckle have a key and keyway mating fit to prevent the fourth tongue from locking in the other buckles.
